DD missing gym
I think DD is really missing gym (she's the one w/the broken collarbone!). This a.m., she said "I think I could at least go back and do conditioning now!" Let's see, she broke her bone August 1, so it's been about 3 1/2 weeks. She can raise her arm above her head and out to the side w/no discomfort at all. She even showed me that she can do one of those "pike lift" things... legs straight out, lift body off the floor ... without any discomfort in her shoulder. I told her to STOP though..... she has her follow up next Tuesday... keep your fingers crossed for her!!!

Maybe after the Dr. appt they will give her a partial go - ahead. It does sound like she is missing it,

we will keep our fingers crossed that the follow-up goes well.

As a nurse & mom of DD with prior broken collar bone(from horseback riding), please don't let your DD push herself(at all) without MD approval... even if there is no pain. Wait until she is re-x-rayed & gets the "OK" from her MD. The developing bone is VERY fragile. If she disturbs this healing it can cause BIG problems. The doctor should be able to show you & her the developing bone on the x-ray. Once she's sees how fragile it is maybe she'll understand her restrictions better. I know it's difficult & she's missing gym...but coming back strong & heathy is what really matters. Best wishes for a speedy recovery

Keeping fingers crossed for dd. Sending patience to you in whatever form desired! Gymjourneymom is so right about not letting her push it at all. Make sure she hears past the doctor saying its healing. She'll lock onto those words and decide she's ready to go. Sounds like the doc did have the right idea about keeping her away from the gym for 4 weeks-----you know she'd be trying to do something if she was there.

I'm sure you're going nuts trying to keep her occupied!

I am going nuts.. and so is she. When I saw her doing that this a.m. I told her to stop it immediately. She will get re-x-rayed (gee, is that even a word?) next Tuesday... and we WILL do what the Dr. says, that's for sure. It's just getting really hard for her to sit here at home! All good things take time, tho!

My DD went bonkers when she had to take 5 weeks off from gym. She drove me crazy along with her. I felt like a drill master, "stop that", "Don't do that" every five seconds.

But it was worth every irritating minute of it. Make her take it easy, she 'll come back better faster that way. Going back too soon is just going to make the wait longer in the end.

But, I really do feel for you both, it bites!
