Our gym girls go to 4 different camps. My dd and a few others go to IGC, and I go as a visiting coach. IGC is very structured in the schedule. Others go to Woodward because it's less structured and the girls can go play whenever they want. Older girls go to Penn State for their camp and a couple go to Parkettes, they have family in the Reading area and they stay with them.

My dd is 12 and I prefer the tight structure of IGC. She was placed in the right grouop last year and did very well. I don't mind the spotting, coaches have to insure safety of each gymnast at all times, I'm OK with that.

Food is FABULOUS! We will be there the week of July 4th, like last year...fewer gymnasts.

My dd goes to Parkettes! What level is your daughter? Mine is only a Level 4 but she'll be required to attend the camp. I was actually thinking about hosting a gymnast but have to talk to my husband first. Their camp is very well run, very structured. It is popular, too. They do a lot of fun things, too and have the kids put on a skit the last night or afternoon, if I recall. It's worth checking into. You can go to their website at www.parkettes.com. Maybe I'll see you there?

My daughter is L5 and is 13 years old. Parkettes does sound wonderful, but I'm just nervous having her stay w/a family that I know nothing about!!! I've been to the website... but like I said, I'm just a nervous and overprotective mom!

nettyinpa, I would be going! i dont have a daughter... lololol

I am not suure what level I am yet..I am just starting out and I'm a different level in each event! Wow, that's very impressive that your daughter goes to Parkettes, isn't hard to get into?
OOOHH! Perhaps I will be put at your home! lol
Yes, I am hoping and wishing that it will all work out!

I understand being nervous about sending your daughter. I am 15 and I don't think my mom really is too worried, she is more overwhelmed that my sister will be in marine boot camp this summer, she will not even be concerned about gymnastics camp! lol

I have applied to go to Lake Owen for the mom and dad to camp program and if I am accepted my DD will go. She just turned 7 so she is not quite ready for week long overnight camp herself yet. We hope to go the week that her coaches are up there. I figure if I can work this year and she gets the experience of camp, I will let her go herself starting in 2009.

HI all!

So we've got 9 girls to form a "group" to go to IGC. Was hoping just ONE MORE would go to get a bigger discount, but... oh well! Just wondering if anyone else out there has firmed up their summer plans for camp?

I'm sending in the group's applications right after the Judge's Cup next weekend. Our first choice week is July 20, followed by second choice, July 13! I'm excited for DD!

I used to go to bela karolyi's camp. but I haven't done the camp since I was like 7. lol I was a level 5 doing round off flip flop double backs. haha. They just basicly threw me around!

then I went to DGC camp when I was probably 10 or so. that camp was really fun!

Now i'm 15 and a level 10. we don't really go to camps anymore.

My dd has done the flipfest camp two years in a row. She loves it. She was 7 the first year she went and she cried the second night there cause she missed me. But after that she was fine. When it came time to sign up last year, she was like, i don't want to go. So I didn't sign her up. We rode with one of the other mom's that was dropping off her daughter there and my dd said she wanted to stay. I told her that she couldn't because she didn't have clothes, hygiene products, bedding, or anything to stay. Oh, and I hadn't paid! Coach hears that she wants to stay and he goes and talks to John McCready's sister in law and they let her stay. I had to go the store and buy her some hygiene products and overnight her clothes and grips.

They have an awesome place there. Huge gym area, a lake for the gymmies to swim in, go jet skiing, or boating. Of course an adult goes with them on the jet ski and boat. Wonderful cabins and dining hall. It is beautiful there. They are structured. they have 2 practices a day and everynight they do something fun. One night when dd was there, they had a camp wide dance and they do skits, based on what cabin you are in. John Mccready and John rothleisberger own it and they are there everyday with the kids. In fact at gym practice on Wednesday night,John Rothleisberger showed up at our gym and helped coach for the rest of the night!
I think if you choose for your dd's to go, they will love it.
