Panda-girl's Mom is on a distinguished road
novice prep and advanced prep vs. regular levels

At my daughters gym some of the older girls level 7 and above compete in optional divisions (preoptional and advanced prep) instead of the regular levels. Sometimes they are the only gym competeing in these divisions. Some of the other girls compete in just regular level 8. What is the differences between optional division and regular levels and why are other gyms not competing in optionals. The gym competes only USAG meets.
