I've always told my girls to think "candle stick" as they release.

SO I assume that the proper release point for a geinger is when the center of mass is exactly at bar height?

I think that I was taught that any time i did a flyaway my center of mass was actually to be slightly above the bar, as a way of continuing the dismount up and away from the bar. I usually spot my gymnasts, have them swing, keep shoulders open, and i'll stop them right above the bar, hold them in the position and then have them let go and flip over.
