Saluting the judges

O.K. this is a weird question. My daughter joined a new gym this past summer. Her new Chinese coaches want the team girls to do a "one-armed" salute to the judge before beginning their routines at their competitions. My DD really does NOT want to do a one armed salute... she says "it's weird." I've never seen this done... is this something new? Thanks for responding!

Its not new, it is used by many European and Asian gymnasts. Usually it is to start the routine most still do the 2 arm after. The most important thing with a salute is that it looks good. Here is link that shows lots of different salutes.

Very professional...I always did a one arm salute to start a routine and it is what I prefer.

When I first started gymnastics we did a one armed salute. I must admit that I love how most of the men's programs bow to the judges at the end of their routines.

Thanks to all of you who replied! I showed the video clip to my DD, and although she still says "it's weird", at least she was able to see very skilled gymnastics doing it and making it look good! Thanks Again!
