The Alabama Crimson Tide (196.425) maintained their unbeaten streak of 93 consecutive victories over the Auburn Tigers (195.900) despite a challenging and inspiring performance by the orange and blue that just came up short. It was great to see Bama go 24 of 24 routines but it should be noted that they had some surprising execution errors on floor that made this meet closer than it should have been. Freshman
Kayla Hoffman won her first of what promises to be many all around titles, going 39.475, followed closely by sophomore
Kassi Price (39.400), who also scored the meet's highest individual score on any event with a 9.95 on uneven bars. Sophomore
Morgan Dennis was back in magnificent form on the floor, tallying a 9.90 to match Hoffman's score on this same event, while junior
Brittany Magee and sophomore
Casey Overton anchored the balance beam "total team effort" with matching 9.85 scores. Another highlight of the evening was sophomore
Jacqueline Shealy's successful return to competition on the uneven bars, where she nailed a soaring Tkatchev release and a new Comaneci dismount for a respectable 9.725. Her parents' presence and loud cheering made the moment that more special. Senior
Terin Humphrey sat out the meet to continue resting her back but is expected to reenter the line-up in the next few weeks. On to the highlights...
