Hello! My son turns 8 on September 2nd.....his coach is considering having him evaluated in the fall for the Future Stars? I tried to look at it to get more information, and it states the age groups begin at age 8-9 for regionals, etc. For our USAG meets last year, he was not allowed to compete at Level 5 or 6 because of the September 1st birthday cut off (so he competed as a 6 year-old). Does this September 1st rule apply for the Future Stars program too? I'm not even really sure what this is.....Thanks!!

Learning to stabalize all segments and maintaining that alignment WHILE rotating the body into the proper position.
Check it out on YouTube at: Arabesque - YouTube
Let me know if you have a suggestion for my next skill analysis. At present I'm working on the glide kip on P-bars. And I have a request for the full Moy on P's also. What else?
I followed instructions for working the leather soft, and made sure not to buy a size too large. I chalk up generously before I start any exercises. But I get a lot of screetching when it does slide, but most of the time its 'locked' pretty solid and so I tear under the grip. It's definitely not too long to get the dreaded grip-lock. But I can't do the most basic of swings without terrible pain and tears. Please help!

I was level 9, 2012 of February. A day after temple university meet. Placed 6th. I has 2 fractures in my ankle on impact of the springboard. Coach started making me work pommels non stop. Then I was 13. All these injuries started because I am growing. So... With my ankle injury, I worked pommel and ended up having fractured both of my wrist. Missed nationals. Came back in the summer and was diagnosed with spondylosis. A small fracture in L5 lower back. Again mostly from growing, over training, and just the sport of gymnastics. Took the summer off. Came back for optional meet at Parketts in 2013. Back still hurting... Even after a cortisone shot. I pushed through pain that I've never felt before. Still competed nationals. Through out the meets this year my foot as been killing me when I out pressure on it. ( not same injury) different. And my should pops in and out on Highbar and rings and p's. it's now May 11th. Yesterday I told my coach. (Old tough Ukrainian) that I am going to take a month off. I now because I have grown I need to do crazy conditioning... And I will be going for acupuncture. Any thoughts on my situation... Advice? Please I'm desperate and just want to be healthy enough to go and work my but off because next year ill be 15 and if I don't start placing at regionals and nationals... Colleges will not even notice me.

DS has been doing this for many years. He has had many huge successful seasons and has really loved this sport.

Now he is at the beginning of puberty, his body is bigger, harder to deal with. He has gained a little weight, not alot, just a layer. Injuries have dominated the last year. He has lost skills.

As a Mom, I suspect it may be dying. DS is SOOOO adamant about staying, working and he insists he wants to make it to L10.

Although I will never tell him NOT to do what he loves, when does a parent gently guide a young man to a new sport?

Am I wrong? Is this sort of normal? should I keep urging him through this? Right now I am keeping my mouth shut about his sport....I only pester about school, and if he asks ME a gym question.

Let me know if your older gymmie has had a tough transformation.

Finally after casting, resting etc....went back for final MRI to put an end to this injury and now they say it was a misdiagnosed fracture of the styloid in the ulna....tiny but super painful!!!

He is clear to go, but the injury healed badly and may hurt for several months. Doctor prescribed a 'bone stimulator' to speed up the process of this fracture that is half healed....he said there is nothing more to do and that in a NON-Gymnast it would not be an issue.

He suggested to stay away from circles and undergrip HB for a bit longer...

I pray this magical machine will help!!

I was at Westerns for DD's meet this weekend and was volunteering doing scorekeeping. On one of the sessions I got put on the Mens high bar and it was a blast.

Our gym does not have mens and really the one main gym that had mens in our Province lost their space at the university a couple of years ago and have relocated, but I don't think it give them the ability to train properly. Thus I have never seen mens compete ever.

None the less I must comment on how amazing the atmosphere was on that side. Coaches dialoguing with the judges during the meet, getting opinions and looking at score sheets and everyone was okay with that.

All the teams seem like they are one big happy family and not that they are not serious about their gymnastics, but there was just such a light fun air about the whole thing it was contagious.

The spotting and support for someone who came off the bar was really neat to watch.

Question why do you think it seems so much more fun for them and so serious on the women's side? I did scorekeeping on that side as well and the judges barley talked to each other and no way would a coach come over to look at the score sheets and get feedback on the athletes warm up where I was. Maybe that is an unfounded statement, but really I have never seen or felt that type of atmosphere during a competition.

Either way it was an awesome experience!:)
