I try to do that but still don't end up at vertical/ past vertical. How can I do that? If I could turn it over faster i'd be all set. I've done it on the floor 3 times before, but i guess i got lucky.

Hello, I am new to chalkbucket. I found this great forum just a couple of weeks ago and I have already learned so much! I thought it would be time to introduce myself and learn even more.

I am a 16 year old gymnast who absolutely loves gymnastics. I train 4 times week, three hours each, counting up to 12 hours total. I am very lucky to have a gym only 10 minutes from my home. Currently I compete ‘level 3’. However I live in Europe and our level system is way different than the JO program. This also means that English isn’t my first language and I am sorry if I made spelling mistakes. From the youtube clips I have watched, I guess our level 3 is comparable to level 7/8 in the JO program. However I am not sure and I thought this was the perfect place to ask.

Here are some of my skills: ( note: here we don’t only compete the skills we can do perfectly, I actually competed skills that I only got the week before)

Vault: piked tsuk
Bars: bail(not to handstand), toe shoot to highbar, clearhip to handstand, giants, layout 1/5 twist
Beam: BHS-BHS stepout, backtuck, RO full (dismount ;) )
Floor: RO-BHS- 1.5 twist, FHS layout, and I have a series with 2 flips.

Here is a clip from 2 weeks ago: halve finale Nk - YouTube

I am looking forward to learning more about gymlife in other countries. If you have questions about gymnastics where I live, feel free to ask ;)

I do wear grips, but I rip around them. Currently I have 4 rips, 2 of which are new from today. I have 3 days till my next meet. I don't know if I should let everything dry out, or to moisturize them? They keep ripping on top of each other over and over. Any advice on how to heal or prevent?

Im planning on going to IGC next summer, but first I have some of questions.
1. Am I good enough? Im not even on the team and I'll be 12 next year. I heard IGC is for really serious and good athletes, and as far as I can tell, I'm not that good. I know most of the skills up to lvl 5 and almost 6, and Im expecting to join USAIGC sometimes soon, but I still feel like ill be with 7 yr olds.
2. Is it true they actually take away your cell phone? I wouldn't be using my phone during camp or anything, its just once in a while I would like to text my family to tell them Im ok.
3. Will I make friends? I don't have all that many friends in the first place and I don't really get invited to parties or anything. Will I make new friends and have fun? Did you guys have fun?
4. Lastly, Will IGC be worth the money? I love gymnastics and all but $1000 is a lot for one week. Will I really learn a lot?

Thanks

Generally frowned upon because of risk of injuries and creating bad habits. That being said, I feel as if being able to work more often will really help me out. Outside me house there are little wooden curbs (like floor beam size) metal bars and lots of grass. I'm currently working n a fronthandspring step out round off back handspring (the front handspring is the problem) cartwheel swing through round offs on beam, and glide kips on bars. Any tips or drills I could do?

Anyway, I used to compete level 8, then I quit for 5 years, and now I do competitive school gymnastics. I've lost most of my skills. I haven't lost my front handspring vault, but today, I had a huge block. I physically know I can do it, I did it the first time I tried today. But then when I went again, I kept running into the vault because I was scared. I did squat ons for fun for a while, then tried to fhs a again, and did it. Then I true again and couldn't do it. What is wrong with me? Does anyone have tips to get over this weird block?
