I sure was hoping for a Saturday time for the L5 state competition! DARN!! I have been promising Katy for a YEAR now that I'd take her to the Dreamlight Factory! I t hought we'd do it last time we were down that way, but found out that they're only open M through F, 9 to 5!!! Sooooo I've been promising that for the State meet, I'd go ahead and let her leave school very early to give us time to get to the factory before it closes.... DARN. Now I'm obligated for a 2 night stay in a hotel since we don't co mpete til 11:30 on Sunday!!! DRATS!!!

Hi, I'm jumping in a bit late here but wanted to ask how many kids are in Katy's age group. I think you said she came in 7th out of 128? Is that an age group or how many kids competed the whole day? When my older DD was in Level 5 she was in 9 Jr and had about 50 kids in her group. There was also a 9 yr old Sr group. My little DD who is 7 will likely be her own age group (based on previous years, the 7 yr olds were in theirown group some yrs with 7 kids, other years with over 20 kids). This year I think there are fewer than 10 of them.

When is your States? Ours is May 17-18 here in NJ.

Hi Gymmonkeymomma!

There were 128 age 12 and up girls for the whole weekend. Not really sure how many were in her group for the session b/c they didn't do individual awards, just the ribbons for the score ranges. She was only 1 of 2 girls who got that coveted blue ribbon (for an AA score above 36). She was thrilled!

Our state meet is the weekend of May 10-11. They do have all the girls broken down intio age groups for the state meet. She has, I think, 69 girls in her age group.

Wow! That is great! Congrats!

Here we do not have many girls in the 12+ group - last yr's L5 only had 26 at States. For Sectionals we usually have a North site and a South site and they do not put the age groups in sessions. Rather, for Sectionals, they have several gyms come to each session with all age groups, and they award ribbons to half of each age group. During our session yesterday, we had eight girls in the 7-8 yr group and 6 girls in the 12+ group. Depending on the host gym, they may or may not give Achievement awards (different color ribbons based on AA scores).

Yeah, we don't usually have that many girls in the "older" age group either. I was really surprised at how many there were... last year at State's, I think there were only 39 in her age group, so either interest in gymnastics in really exploding, or maybe more girls spent a second year at L5? I don't know. . . we'll see how she does in 2 weeks!

Ooops... I was wrong!! I just decided to go back and look at the results from the third Sectional, and DD came in 7th out of ALL age groups.... I don't know why I thought that was just 12 and up! The results were all ages combined! Sorry!!!
