3rd L5 Sectional in Virginia Beach
Anyone out there going to this one this weekend?
We were originally told that the girls who had already qualified after the first Sectional were NOT required to go... THEN 4 days ago were now told we were ALL required to go!!! GRRRR.... So after a rush of trying to get a hotel room, hubby taking time off from work, etc.... we're now going after all. Anyway . . . we got a room right on the beach and am looking forward to waking up to the view of the ocean Sunday a.m.!!!
I know some of you out there are from the "host" club... what's the facility like? Can't find too many pictures at the website!
Good luck to everyone!

Hey TQM, we are from the host club. What session are you in? I am working all day Sunday so if you are on Sunday, you should stop by the scoremaster table to say hi! The facility is pretty small and seats are in folding chairs so it is best to get there early so you can get a good seat. The good thing about a smallish facility is that all the events are pretty close up so it's easy to see. Bars can be a bit difficult because they are sort of set in front of one another and you may get a team warming up on bars that block your view of the bars your dd is competing on. L's session is the last on on Sunday. Not sure if that is only Gymstrada or there will be other teams competing.

Hi Meg! I was hoping you'd respond! DD is at the session on noon. There are 10 gyms that her gym will be competing against... and her former gym will be at the same session as well, so she's excited to see her old teammates!
Thanks for the heads up on the facility. We'll try to squeeze (literally) in early and do the "hovering" waiting for a seat! I remember thinking that the OT gym was small last year, but at least they had the upper level seating...
I'm sure hoping the weather down there will be better than it's supposed to be up here in No. Va.!!! It's gorgeous today, but they're calling for rain starting tonight and all day tomorrow! I mean, if I have to go to the beach this weekend, at least I want a sunny morning to wake up to the ocean on Sunday!
If I can get to the scoring area, I'll definitely stop by to say "hi"!!!

Lynn, I don't know about the weather. It may be okay actually - I think not raining and temps in the 60s. I hope I get to see you. I have no idea why we are competing in this sectional except that it's a home meet so I guess we have to. We have only three Level 4s and maybe 1 Level 5 who have not qualified already. I think the reason there are so many gyms is that gyms are bringing the few gymnasts who have not qualified so there will be tons of coaches and teams, but not as many gymnasts as one would usually see at a meet. I don't think most teams are bringing their entire squads. Anyway, good luck to your DD and I will hope for good weather!

What are sectionals? We don't have them here in NC and are not required to go to any. We just have to have a qualifying score from a sanctioned meet to go to state.

Tam's Mom
Thanks for asking that - we are in NC too and I was wondering the same thing. I didn't ask because it is not something I need to worry about - DD is currently L3 and she didn't get to go to states because NC does not have L3 states (some states do) - She would have qualified if they had them, so that is kinda exciting.

TQM & Meg, sorry this is so late - but good luck to the girlies today at their sectional!
Meg, how many meets does your gym hold each year?

In Virginia, both level 4 and level 5 girls have to have a qualifying score from an invitational in order to go to a "sectional" meet. Once they compete at a Sectional, THEN they have to score a minimum of 33.5 at the Sectional meet in order to qualify for the State meet.
DD qualified for States at her first Sectional meet in January with a score above 35. Then we were told that she would NOT have to attend this third Sectional.... now... 4 days before this coming meet, we're told EVERYONE needs to go. NOT HAPPY HERE!!!!
Oh well . . . Katy's excited to go, so I guess I need to adjust my attitude. At least we're not the very last session and THEN facing a 4 hour drive home, right?!

Hi again Meg!
Maybe DD will actually get to place first or second on an event then, if most of the girls who are competing are trying to still qualify for the State competition!? She seems to always place 4, 5 or 6th for her age group.... nice, it would be nice for her to get a medal or two! We'll be leaving here about 1:00 and hope to arrive down there about 5:00... barring any unforeseen traffic problems (which always seems to happen to us anyway!). If we can get there early enough, I'll swing by the 'scoremaster' station! Don't want to interrupt you once the meet starts and you have to stay busy w/the scoring!

Lynn, it was nice to meet you on Sunday! I was happy to hear that your DD had a good meet. Things went pretty well for my dd too - good beam and bars scores anyway. I was exhausted after 12 plus hours in the gym!
