Anyone going to Summer Camp? When and where?
Hi out there. I was wondering if anyone was going to spending time at a gymnastics camp? My DD will be going to International Gymnastics Camp on Aug. 19... anyone else?

My girls go to Gymrep in Quebec. A great gym camp, outdoor gym with traditional camp activities too.
I did check out IGC online, wow, now that looks awesome, as does Woodward. Perhaps when my girls are a bit older they might venture to the States to try one of those mega camp experiences.
Camp has been a great experience for my girls, both sleepaway and day camp.

I was torn between Woodward and IGC.... but then some fellow moms and my gym had had some personal experience with IGC.. makes sending my "baby" away a bit easier! PLUS I guess it's about 1/2 hour closer too!! I'm hoping she has a great experience.

How long are the camps your kids are going to? Here it will just be from Monday morning till Friday end of the day. So not too long, but they will have 4 hours training in a day. So my daugther will be knackered when she comes home, since she only trains 3 hours week normally. But I know she will love it.

Geographically, nothing is really close to us. To get to IGC or Woodwards in PA would be rather pricey due to airfare for my daughter and at least 1 parent. Woodwards West or Karolyis is closer to us---still would have to fly to get her there, but the airfare would be cheaper.
Our gym uses Level 7 as a mobility level and she has done 1 season of Level 6, so right now, the push is on to get those optional skills. I think if she makes it to Level 8 this summer, it would be better for her to stay at home since she will have ALOT to learn.

Gymbabi got to go to woodward west last year and had a great time. I don't think we will be able to afford it this year, but most of the other girls on team are planning to go.

A piece of advice to those contemplating going to woodward: do it. The place is heaven on earth, and anybody who's into gymnastics should go there at least once.
That said, the older the kid, the more they're likely to get out of it; there is nobody at woodward herding the kids around telling them "now it's time for you to go to workout;" that's up to them. A 14-year-old will likely have an experience that they will long remember as one of the most enjoyable weeks they've ever had, whereas a seven-year-old will merely have a fun week.

Gymbabi loved it. She and one other girl from our gym were there at the same time, both 14 year olds. I think they would have worked out non-stop if they had been allowed. They worked so hard they both got "tapped" and offered the chance to come back at a much reduced price. We couldn't afford to send GB again but the other girl went and is going back this year for a couple of weeks. One week she'll pay and the next week she'll work and go for free, totally awesome!
