Our daughter will be 13 months old on July 7th. No idea if she'll be a gymnast or not, but she did her first forward roll down a wedge mat the other day.

My little neice that just turned 2 really enjoyed forward rolls when I was at her house. We had a queen sized blow up mat on the floor and so I showed her how to do it. She entertained herself and everyone around for a good 1/2 hour doing forward rolls. Some of them wound up more like fish flops though. She was a total crack up.

Hi, My daughter is 8 yrs old and has been doing gymnastics for 2 years. She is getting ready to compete level 4 again this year since she qualifed for the state meet last yr but never placed at a meet all season. Her first meet isn't until Oct. She doesn't seem to care about not placing she just wants to move up to level 5 with the girls she was with last yr. It's been a rough summer for her.

I'm sorry your dd's had a rough summer. I hope the new season brings her more happiness and lots of new friends.

It's nice to see a new name posting!

Thanks! A bad weekend summer camp didn't help (she never wants to go to that camp again!) since if you were not advanced up to level 5 they wouldn't work with you. Did you say that your dd is just starting to compete? Scary at times.

I can't believe she was ignored just because she wasn't going to be a level 5. That's really unfair and I don't blame her for not wanting to go back. Was this camp through your own gym? If it was, I'd definitely talk to the head coach about how it impacted you dd. She probably wasn't the only one to feel bad and that doesn't just hurt the gymnast, it hurts the gym next time they offer the camp.

Yes, this will be the first year of competing for my dd. I don't think they have any competitions until the winter though, so lots of learning time to go. She'll be 8 in a couple of months.

Right now she's more excited about getting fitted for a competitive leo and track suit than she is about competing! That equals "special status" to my little girl

Nothing makes them feel special like a NEW COMPETITION TEAM LEO! Her camp was on the other side of he state! what a waste of gas.$. & vacation time! She cant Kip without help but when the bar instuctor did work with her for 5 minutes she had her work on glides and strapped her to the giant bar to have her try giants! I just about yanked her out of there. My dds the only one in our town that does gymnastics so nobody knows what Im talking about either. Thanks & sorry I must have needed to vent.

I'm new here and actually have three children in gymnastics, though I am not sure if they qualify as "gymnasts" yet! My son just turned 8 and takes a boys only beginner class for 3 hours a week. My daughters are 4 and 6 though they turn 5 and 7 respectively in a couple of months. They are both taking 6 hours of gymnastics in a pre-team program. They both just got their back hip circles on bar - and even did them on the high bar! I think the little one will compete Level 4 next year. It's iffier for my 6 year old as she doesn't have good flexibility. If she works hard, maybe.
