You either play in the big leagues or you don't.

No one gives a hoot if you played in the minors.

"Oh really? That's nice."

Not always...there are some "elites" that should have stayed 10s and try chucking skills to say they are elite and it just isn't safe...

Ummm, no. 10's don't just stumble into Elite, they train for a long time and qualify. They have to master the skill sets in the compulsory level, they have to compete on FIG, vault and Bars, (which eliminates most 10's to begin with). They have to build routines years in advance around value and bonus which is insanely hard. They train way more hours, they eat, sleep and breath gymnastics. They spend long weeks away from families...... So the notion that they just show up and start throwing skills just to try Elite , so they can say they are Elite is not a reality . Are some kids pushing the limits, YES! they all are, some just have higher limits. But make no mistake, each Jr, and Sr has earned her spot and then some.

I didn''t say they "stumbled into elite' but there are coaches out there who think they can make anyone an elite and they have gymnasts who are not even strong 10s going to qualifiers they have no business being at....and yes, they have them chucking skills (that they hope to land) and hopefully get the scores they need....I have seen this happen more than you think...and these are usually the kids who do not get their scores but the gym still refers to them as "their elites"....

Is there a difference in the proportion of Elites that home school vs level 10s? How different are the hours?

At lot of this whole approach depends on the gym the kid is in.....none of the 10s in our current gym homeschool but in our old gym, there were several who did homeschool....it was more a philosphical difference in the coaching staff ...
