I tried searching but came up empty. What is the deduction for a coach on the floor for a spot, but they don't touch the gymnast? Is it different between JO and Xcel?

It isn't a deduction for standing on the floor. It is a deduction only if the coach touches the gymnast. It is 5 tenths plus part of the element.

I found this in the USAG rules

B. The 0.50 deduction for the coach on the Floor Exercise area without physically assisting the
gymnast is applied only once, regardless of the number of times the coach enters the area.
(Applies to Level 6 and above.)

Interesting!!
Wouldn't apply to us, as at our gym there is no spotting allowed in meets, ever. If the gymnast doesn't perform the skill safely with absolutely no spotting during practice, they will not compete whatever event has that skill. For example, if they desire a spot or someone to stand close "just in case" on the flyaway, and can't do it completely independently and safely at practice every time.... They scratch bars. Period.

We have a level 7 who is going through a block with her back tumbling. She can do it with a spot and occasionally without so she takes the deduction rather than scratch. Not a safety issue, just a fear issue

Is it the same spot deduction in optionals for a coaching standing on the mat for the bar dismount.
Technically, a coach is supposed to be standing near bars anyways.... so as long as the gymnast is not touched and the coach is on the outside of the bars (or something like that), then no deduction.

In Xcel the coach can stand between the bars and next to the beam with no deduct unless gymnast is touched. We only do this if the gymnast is working through a mental block on a skill she previously had consistent and has compete solo in the past. We don't put in skills that still need a spot otherwise.

That's how we are with our Xcel girls. We also do that for other girls who previously had a skill and for whatever reason, have a fear of doing it without someone there - for moral support :)

We have L3 that can do BEAUTIFUL beam dismounts... IF the coach stands on the other side with her arms out like a T ... and she can be clear back at the edge of the mat... it is just KNOWING she is there, just in case.
