I've been seeing a lot of threads mentioning the ins & outs of qualifying for regionals as an event specialist & it seems to be different everywhere. I'm in region 3. Does anybody know when it is too late to declare event specialty due to injury? Is it even possible to do this at level 7?
I guess I should back up a little & explain what's going on. I've been having a lot of dizziness, balance issues, & some shortness of breath along with a few other symptoms. I'm seeing doctors & they're doing testing etc. I already had a brain MRI & everything was fine. They also found that I'm anemic. So, they think it's anemia with an inner ear thing. Anyway, dizziness & gymnastics don't mix. I have no idea where I am on my tumbling & after my low bar routine, I can't even get to the high bar. Would this even be considered an injury for petitioning purposes?
If it's applicable to level 7, what is the qualifying score? State is next weekend and I'm really stressing out!

I don't know of any region with event specialists at level 7. Qualification to regionals for those that even have level 7 regionals is typically a percentage of placement, meaning you must compete to go.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I figured. I know ours is based on a percentage qualifying.

Our region (2) has event specialists at level 7, but you can only go as far as state. No regionals for level 7. Typically, the declaration date for event specialists is mid-February.

It doesn't sound safe to do your full repertoire of gymnastics under those circumstances. Event specialist or not. You may need to sit this one out. Sorry :( but ultimately you don't want to risk a bigger injury.

As for the nuts and bolts of your question, I only know of region 8 and region 1 having level 7 regionals? Are there more now? My region definitely doesn't. Anyway, I don't think you'll be able to petition or go as an event specialist unless it's a flat score, so Since you said you know it's a percentage, I would assume that's a no. In my region, for example level 8 goes by placement at states so you must compete all four events at states and place in the top whatever to go. No petition, no event specialist. But in level 9 and 10 you need a 34, so injury petitions are allowed, and event specialists need a 9.0.

Yes, this is only the second year that region 3 has had level 7 regionals. And ours is based on a percentage, so no hope of qualifying unless I can get this fixed by next weekend :(
I'm not even capable of my full gymnastics skills right now :( My FHS vault is still pretty good but other than that, I can barely make a RO-BHS on floor, & I keep missing kips/clear hips all of which I've been doing FOREVER. Surprisingly, a lot of beam is okay. I wobble a lot on the choreography but my jumps & turns are fine. As for my HS-BHS, I've been able to do that with a very heavy spot. Ugh of course this would happen before state! :(
So, I guess this brings another question. Has anybody had something similar to this happen & be resolved fairly quickly? It's not just gymnastics either. I am off balance at school, track & home as well.

I know this may sound dumb and may not work, but if there is a component of vertigo, it could help (and it won't hurt) google half somersault colorado university. A youtube by an ENT should pop up. It helps with dizziness related to the semicircular canals. It gives you an exercise to do on your knees by moving your head and can help cure vertigo/inner ear dizziness.
