Proud Parent
My daughter is 12. She has had 2 back to back surgeries which has put a halt to full time gymnastics . She still goes 16 hours and week and conditions and lots of core strength as well as jumps in beam /floor , anything that doesn't use her hands which is where the injuries were .
Shes a level 9 and is getting close to being back full time ( last surgery was 5 weeks ago recovery is 6-8 weeks )

Anyway , she has been complaining of back pain lately especially if she is sitting for awhile. I'm wondering if it's from all the core work ? Coach wants her to go to PT . She's in OT now for her hand but they had some kind of testing by a PT recently and it showed a significant imbalance in a couple of the exercises . She has tight shoulders and imbalanced ankle flexibility . I don't know if related to the back ?? It's just strange her back is hurting now when she's kind of on break ... She has grown a lot lately too .. Any advice would be great thanks !!

I would take her to a sports medicine doctor who is familiar with gymnasts, to start.

I have 1 DD who retired from gymnastics due to 2 stress fractures in the lumbar spine, and a second DD who is currently in PT for back pain after a bone scan was clear for a stress fracture in the spine.

Back pain in a gymnast can be a seriously bad problem. And it can be easily misdiagnosed by a practitioner unfamiliar with gymnasts ( Older DDs pediatrician assumed, wrongly, it was muscle pain because it was to the side of the spine.)

Good luck to your DD in her recovery.

I just took my 12 year old dd to sports injury specialist for back pain. I need prayers for her that she does not have any fractures or stress fractures. We have to do 6 weeks pt, and will go for scans possibly tomorrow.
