Back in the 80's we all wore shoes, and with socks no less. It was a fashion statement if nothing else. I don't remember taking them off for bars specifically and I definitely did a collection of toe on things. It all seems quite odd to me now.
 
Yeah. The gymnastics business seems like the wrong one for the germ phobic. If you really think about it, it will freak you out. Bleeding hands, kids spitting on their hands, sweat-- all mixing together on the equipment, which you can't really sanitize. It's a breeding ground for germs.

Not to mention dedicated/determined kids coming in to practice when they're sick....germs everywhere. Feet bother me the least in this sport. [emoji12]
