advice for a guy wanting to learn basic gymnastics

Hey,

I am a college age male athlete who specializes in olympic weightlifting. I've become interested in gymnastics lately. I don't aspire to be a gymnast but I'd like to become skilled and use gymnastics skills as a tool to improve my functional strength, coordination, balance/flexibility, and explosiveness.

What are some good tips for me, and what would be a good book to start out with? So far I only have some low end parallelettes and a chin bar at my disposal at home and have been teaching myself basic movements I read in an article by Christ Sommer.

thanks!
