Parents Almost 11 year old being asked to repeat Level 3

Unfortunately, it sounds like you have your answer. I would recommend not signing the contract, and quietly trying out any other gym options in your area. This may be a wonderful gym, but it sounds like it isn’t a good fit for your daughter’s goals at this time.

Parents Almost 11 year old being asked to repeat Level 3

It’s worth asking for a meeting where your daughter can share her feelings and goals with the coach. I think at that meeting you would get a good sense of whether there is actually a chance of them allowing her to compete L4 next season. If they are clear on exactly what skills she needs to show...

    WAG switching gyms?

Since it sounds like you are in a supportive environment, I would suggest talking to your current coaches about how you are feeling. I think you can have the conversation without it feeling like you are blaming them or the gym. Let them know that you are getting frustrated because you are not...

Off Topic Track & Field Forum? (Or Other Sports)

I would be interested. I have a former gymnast competing D1 Track and Field next year, and a current gymnast that may try high school track next season.

    WAG Pike Jump on beam

For USAG Optionals, a pike jump is either a B or C skill depending on your position on the beam.

Parents Can your kid just come to your car after practice?

My 15 year old is allowed to walk out to the car on her own. I hardly ever set foot in the gym anymore.

Parents Help I shrunk my gymnasts competition leotard!!!

Put rolled up towels in the torso and sleeves while the leotard is wet. That can also help to stretch it back out.

Parents Weight issues - advice needed!

Nothing good can come of speaking to your daughter about your concerns. Nothing. Please resist the urge to say anything. You can gradually make a shift in the foods that you bring into your home, but anything beyond that runs the risk of leading to an eating disorder.

Margaux’s Story: A Gymnast Finally Speaks Out

This is heartbreaking and infuriating. How can something be shocking and unsurprising at the same time? Catherine Lyons and Lisa Mason are also speaking out. https://www.itv.com/news/2020-07-06/beaten-and-starved-stars-allege-abuse-at-heart-of-british-gymnastics

Parents Motivating kids who hate conditioning?

I have a different perspective. Gymnastics is an optional activity, so I am not going to monitor conditioning the way I monitor school work. I asked my 13 year old whether she plans to continue with gymnastics when this is over. She said yes, so I shared some resources with her, and I asked if...

    Parents L8 Straddleback

She did eventually learn to pirouette on the low and high bar, but it was a struggle. It wasn’t consistent until the end of summer after her L8 season. She still didn’t prefer to pirouette, and avoided it in her L9 routine by mounting on the high bar before doing her bail and doing a toe-hand to...

    Parents L8 Straddleback

I haven’t personally seen a L8 routine with a straddle back, but my daughter did a bail instead of a pirouette at L8. I would imagine the routine would be something like: kip cast to squat on, jump to high bar, swing to straddle back, kip cast handstand, sole circle, jump to high bar, kip cast...

    WAG Opinions wanted

Yes, switch leap is a C level dance skill that is allowed in L7, so no restricted element deductions apply. If your dd isn’t getting too discouraged, it seems fine to leave those skills in.
