    WAG Beginning of season goals

My daughter only met one goal, but I was really proud of her. Her artistry has come so far. There were lots of little technical issues, but those will get fixed, I'm sure. On to next weekend!

    WAG Beginning of season goals

I always post about my daughter's goals at the beginning of the year. I asked my daughter about her goals for the season. She wanted her team to vote her strongest and bars queen at the year end banquet. She also said she wants to treat every meet like it's state, where she has always performed...

WAG Comp season is here- what are your traditions?

We're new 4. Injuries (thankfully) aren't really on our radar yet.

WAG Comp season is here- what are your traditions?

Before every meet, we give my daughter a massage. This morning I ask my daughter if she was ready for meet season. She responded in the affirmative and said, "I'm really excited for my massage Friday night!" Do any of you have specific pre-competition rituals or traditions? P.S. Good luck to...

WAG I just don't know what to do.

GTM, I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree. To point out that a scholarship would require doing gymnastics is correct, but I think an important life lesson gets missed. Unless you have parents who are willing and able to pay for all of your college , you're going to have to put in work for...

WAG I just don't know what to do.

If you were my daughter, I'd ask if you felt you could get a scholarship. If you could, I'd encourage you to keep going and turn your hard work over the years into a free education. If not, I would tell you to make a value decision. At our gym graduating L10s get honored at our year-end banquet...

    WAG Finally facing fear

I see that. Especially when it's a team practice.

    WAG Finally facing fear

I don't usually have a lot if good input for her gymnastics, but this time I did. Years ago, in my young and dumb days, I went with my buddies to a place that had cliffs you could jump off of into a pool of water. The highest was 80+ feet high. I started and stopped several times until I finally...

    WAG Finally facing fear

It's odd that her having fear sort of validates her experience for me. It's like it's a rite of passage. :)

    WAG Finally facing fear

I've been told that fear was coming and we're finally there. The skill? BWO on beam. She's finally going by herself after a ton of start-stops. SHE GOT IT! (Sorry for the running commentary.)

WAG Is this accurate or complete nonsense?

Yes, we have two seasons, the first of which begins in a little less than two months. Most of the team already had them because they thought it made them cool like the older girls. I spoke with our head coach about grips and he told me that he'd let me know when it was time. He just let us know...

WAG Is this accurate or complete nonsense?

I don't mind buying them if the coach wants my daughter to have them. Our coach recently indicated that it was time for grips. I just hate the deduction fear-mongering. My wife was freaked-out because the grips our coach wants are back-ordered and my wife found out production won't start for 4...

WAG Is this accurate or complete nonsense?

It came second-hand from a parent that said our coaches said that. I have read the table of penalties and the general faults and it is nowhere in there.

WAG Is this accurate or complete nonsense?

Tell me that means you find that assertion as ridiculous as I do.

WAG Is this accurate or complete nonsense?

I was just told that in new level 4, girls get a deduction for not having grips. This sounds like utter rubbish to me. Is anyone in the know on this?

WAG Any lefties struggling with the new routines?

I know this sounds crazy, but it's really comforting to know that we haven't been the only ones with lefty/righty struggles. Thanks for all of the responses!

    WAG Was this judge unethical?

mamaS, if we are going to ask for opinions, we should be prepared to hear them. While the delivery of what was said may have been a bit harsh, the point is spot on. If you don't want something repeated, the only 100% effect way to accomplish that is to remain tight-lipped.

WAG Any lefties struggling with the new routines?

It's interesting, because my daughter knew the routines for two levels above her last year, just by osmosis. This year, she hasn't been able to watch other girls, so the learning curve has been a little tougher. I'm glad to hear the coaches struggle a bit, too. ;)
