My youngest DD was in the same spot. Asked at 9 to start training Tops (in the winter). She has just finished Level 4. She is testing as a 10 year old. While I don't think it will lead to any National testing, the training has been immensely helpful, and I've already seen it in competition. She...
Just my 2 cents. My oldest DD tried out for team at our gym at 10. The HC thought she was too old and too tall for JO. She only had a pullover, handstand, one side split, and backhand spring ( froggy). So she did 3 years of Excel (bronze, silver, and gold). And absolutely killed it! 95% of the...
Yes, I think so. Older DD's floor has 3 long complicated passes and she is insistent that lil sis change that full to lefty! I wonder how hard that is? How is twisting direction figured out? From easy skills like round off, or the natural direction of harder twists, like full? In other words...
So my youngest DD (9), finished her season as a Level 4 this year. I have posted in the past about her older sister, (the Level 8).
So lil one is a lefty gymnast. Best split is left, cartwheels left, full turns left, and round offs left. I was sent a video of her doing a really nice full on the...
Thanks for your response! I don't think it's too late. She doesn't have any symptoms or pains yet. I'm sending this article to head coach so it can be nipped in the bud!
Hi all,
Recently I was going thru old photos/videos of DD's gym meets and noticed that through the years, her foot seems flatter and flatter. 5 years ago, she had a strong arch and very pointed toe. Now she still has an arch (flatter than before) but her pointed toe is not that strong. She is...
I checked, and the other compulsory sessions were tougher. Would've been better competition for our team. We have big compulsory levels, so maybe that's why? Still a mystery!
Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering if it's a random thing or planned somehow? I know our local meets have some kind of planning: you'll see high scoring homeschool type gyms go against similar teams, and vice versa. But in our state, everyone knows how the gyms rank.
The out of state...
Hi all,
We are close to the end of our meet season, and I had a question about multiple sessions in one meet. For example, when there are several Level 4, 7, 8, etc sessions in one meet. How do they determine at a big meet which teams go in which session? The reason I ask is, in our last meet...
4 years ago, my DD (then 7), went to Woodward and came home with a $50.00 shiny gold, brown, and black snakeskin Leo. It was so hideous, it was funny! What can I say, the clothes don't matter, the attitude does!
My DD is a 5th grade level 8, so is always in the Child/ Jr. A group. That group is so competitive we call it the Piranha age group! The winning AA for that group is usually 1-2 whole points above the next older group. So DD has to watch teammates with lower AA placing higher. But, I have...
We went to this meet! A great meet and a great time! Really, absolutely comparable to a Disney meet. 1/2 price rooms with gymnastics coupon code, plus 20% off flights. The water park was free with rooms! Highly recommend!
My dd is competing Level 8 this season, so this thread really interests me. My question is about "voided" vaults. I have seen many Level 8 meets, and have seen quite a few girls land on their hands and knees. They typically received scores 7-8.25, not 0. I have actually never seen a zero score...
I'm pretty sure there are easy drills for the straddle cast. My dd can do press handstands... Seems like a similar motion? Maybe talk to the coach. My dd has a good cast handstand, but it's archy when she's tired. So she did the straddle cast at night or early am meets. But I had to ask the...
Easy solution: do a straddle cast handstand. Very common in college gymnasts. Can actually get girls higher scores versus a sloppy cast handstand. Pretty easy to do too!
