Didn't turn out the way I wanted, but referring to the first video at the instant the counter rolls from 5sec to 6sec.....
Agreement with previous posts. You're going up instead of back because of your round off, and you aren't waiting to pass your feet before pushing into the bhs. Look at...
Improve your kip technique.....
Many gymnasts kip with heir arms working to press to bar down in sort of straight arm pull to support. The problem is that when the gymnast begins the arm pull they are below the bar moving backward, from the glide side to the support side, and the arm pull sends...
Seems like bog has it figured out. If you're like most early back handspringers you probably think you need to jump up to give yourself enough time to turn upside down.....and that just doesn't work for the following reasons:
Jumping high means you come down to your locked arm position with...
It's a function of progress. You can only lose a skill if you have it...... if you get what I mean. Sure there's other things like vestibular, lack of interest in the particular skill, or belief in a model for the skill that differs from the coach's, but typical "got it/lost it/got it" is part...
You're on the right track.
I work with odd number steps so it's three steps to straight jump, five steps to tree fall, and seven steps to handspring. if they can't make those vaults with the given steps they need to concentrate on their run and hurdle. One idea to get a consistent run is to...
Strength, desire, and determination......
Coordination and flexibility can be honed to the maximum of each gymnast's potential, and often you'll see a clumsy kid blossom into an elegant gymnast but it takes the first three qualities to do so.
The idea is that kids will reach further than their arms allow because they want to re-establish contact with the beam as early as possible during the end of their flight phase. To get there they will sacrifice alignment, get completely out of square, and point their fingers straight to the beam...
I had a kid with scoliosis who spent several months in a straight jacket type brace..... 23 hours a day. She still did ok after the corrective work and physical therapy.
Contra-indicated???.......
UCLA's coach didn't have a problem with her scolio history.
Over the years there have been several "correct" hand placements that have all been replaced by the next "this is the right way" technique. History tells me our fingers can be kept out of harm's way in nearly any hand position, and he problem is likely a contribution from your dear child.
I got...
Not a fan of negative coaching but sometimes information alone is very overwhelming, and even more so when delivered by a hard case coach. perhaps the coach feels your dd is resting on her past accomplishments and wants to nip that in the bud.
Ask your dd to consider what the coach is saying...
This helps......
My main concern for your dd was that she was in a gym that had few if any kids doing well past levels 4 through 6, and the top 10 rule was put in
place to slow kid's movement through levels. Heaven forbid a child should move one level per year and not be ready for L7 orL8.
So...
