WAG rewarding the team with allergenic food

I am loving the s'more talk.....making me hungry! Yes, marshmellows have gelatin making them not vegetarian, which is why dd does not eat them. If I know ahead of time that s'mores will be involved in an event, I bring marshmellow fluff (which is equally evil but does not have gelatin) and a...

WAG rewarding the team with allergenic food

My first problem with this whole situation would be the food=reward part. Before theorizing on whose job it is to know of and accommodate every kid's food intolerance/allergy, we should really be questioning why food, especially unhealthy food, is part of a reward system for kids. My family...

Parents How do you feel about youtube?

We have used it on locked-down private settings just to share with far-away relatives. Or we will just email the videos directly so they are not out there at all. I try to avoid the "amazing Suzy" videos, especially when dd might watch, because they make dd feel bad. She does like watching...

    WAG Need quick rip help

This is true. Convincing dd this is true has been a challenge..... I just wish it were not the biggest meet of the year that she gets tested on it.

    WAG Need quick rip help

Do you put the diaper cream on while on bars? Probably a dumb question.....

    WAG Need quick rip help

I know rips have been discussed many times. I am looking for advice for how to hobble by for a couple of days with a rip. My dd is a L4 and is not used to having to do bars with rips. She only practices 6 hours a week and in the past when she has had a rip, she has just skipped bars until it...

    Parents AAU vs USAG

My dd is at an AAU-only gym and I can say that we never see the highest levels at AAU meets. We might see a handful of L7s and L8s and that is it. Nothing higher. Our gym tops out at L7. Some have said the scoring is easier and having never been to a USAG meet, I do not have first-hand...

Parents 6 year old Level 4 struggling

If it makes you feel any better, my 9yo L4 cannot do the mill circle either.

    WAG AAU Nationals in Florida

DD's team went last year. You only compete one day so you really don't have to be there the whole time. However, you don't find out what day you compete until right before the meet. We did not know until 10 days beforehand. So anyone buying plane tickets really has little choice but to stay...

    Parents Back bends and bridges..

I have asked. A few times. And I have gotten different but vague answers. Cost was one. Distance to meets was another.....which makes a lot of sense. We already travel for hours to get to meets and I believe that we would have to travel further to compete USAG. And lastly, we are a...

    Parents Back bends and bridges..

This concerns me. I hope they align better with the new changes coming up. AAU is our only option. There are no USAG gyms in my area or for hours in any direction. Given the current situation, would you consider it unwise to allow a child to participate in an AAU program? I am totally...

    Parents Mill/Stride Circle!!!

Nice! This is the single skill my 9yo L4 STILL does not have. She has her first meet of the season in three weeks and is very upset about this. She is so so close, but to "get it," she has to bend her legs.

    Parents Back bends and bridges..

As mentioned above, AAU L3 does have a back-walkover....which I imagine will get pushed down to L2 with the new level system?? My dd was 8 yo when she was a L3 so I was not concerned but there were plenty of 4 and 5 yo L3s at the meets we attended.

    WAG Swimming before a meet?

It is discouraged at our gym. The explanation was that it messes up the hands. I would say every single girl on the team ignores this and they DO the all day run around the waterpark thing. I am sure it is tiring and perhaps not optimal but they have so much fun, I am certainly not going to...

WAG How much time is spent on a high beam during beam?

At least 75% for my dd's gym. They only have one high beam and no low/fat beams. They might do some work on a floor line but everything else is up on the real beam. They do put lots of mats under it when trying to use it as a "low beam."

WAG Required to go out 50%?

My dd competes AAU so the rules are a little different. It seems to be all over the place at meets. We have been to meets where they only award out to 3rd place and we have been to others that place everyone out. Whoever said it above is right, even the very littlest of kids can figure out...

WAG directors:? grouping teams in meets?

I was the one that posted this account and I agree that it was completely unacceptable. Had I been close enough to grab her before she did what she did, I would have. I was busy looking around for someone official looking to explain the situation to. The check-in table was a good 5 minute...

WAG directors:? grouping teams in meets?

I have often wondered how meets are scheduled too. We had a situation last year at a large invitational that created a problem. There were two gym floors so two sessions happening at any given time. There was a session on one floor with our L5s split into two different rotations (the...

    Parents Friday meets

We have to miss a work/school day for almost every meet for travel so it is part of the deal. Our meets are all 4-8 driving hours away. The local schools do not really care much and it has never been a problem. Working it out with our employers, however, is a different story. Our girls are...
