Parents 5 Things Every Gym Parent Should Know?

How many ways can the "old-timers" say to the "new-timers", just calm down? How about a thread that answers those types of questions? What we can do is offer advice/explanations/succor to those who may not want to (or cannot) talk with their coaches. A third party safety valve.

    MAG Meets are posting

All meets are going to be at the mercy of local health departments. The best way to ensure we have a meet season is to follow all the guidelines and do everything possible to make sure your local area stays 'low count', 'low risk'.

    MAG 18 yo and SafeSport

We had two kids who turned 18 last year. They had to take the Safesport course in order to retain their membership. The issues came up with rooming at camp and the social media stuff. We never got a very definite answer. i think as long as everything is in the open, the kids are teammates...

There is a 'best practices', 'recommended guidelines' doc in the works. However, I don't have an ETA. KRC

    MAG Proposed NCAA changes

In many instances, the roster cuts are being dictated by the Universities. The 5/4 or 4/4 proposals are an attempt to maintain parity in response to those roster cuts. It also allows the meets to be quicker and more suitable for broadcasting. Everyone is aware of the ramifications, but...

    MAG Nationals Schedule

You have to be in the top six AND not in the All-Around. It is not top six after the AA's are taken out. Pretty tall order. Seven kids, 6 sessions, plus JO finals maybe. Gonna be a long weekend! KRC

    WAG Oh and thanks USAG

The quick answer from Indy is yes - however they are working on a way to allow 17yo's to take the test early (before turning 18) so that they may become compliant.: "Question was: What about the athlete who is turning 18 after the March 23 deadline and before E/W and JO Nationals? As it...

    WAG Oh and thanks USAG

Yes, USAG definitely dropped the ball on this one, but the deadline has been extended clarified. Compliance will be checked after 4/23. Everyone should try to get it done before your regional championships. KRC

MAG Well they apparently got kicked out of State meet too!

I'm pretty sure that change cannot be made without an "OK" from the office. KRC

MAG Region Championships not allowing some to compete

Hi Everyone, Just to make the point that the USAG age groups for awards are minimums. Meet directors can (and should) subdivide if numbers warrant. As a general rule of thumb, I will go out approx one-third up to 15 places and then subdivide the group. I also try to be a little more generous...

    MAG Spotting Deduction

@acam1103 Yes it would be equivalent to leaving out the skill. I can think of a few instances (L6 back uprise on Rings) where if the athlete can't make complete the skill, he can't finish the routine. Here a coach would have to spot the skill otherwise the athlete would be stuck. Incidental...

MAG Question regarding coaching...style, I guess?

Hello, @Curlyfry7. A couple of things i'd like to add. First on spotting. Spotting is done for two reasons: safety and shaping. Both are different and both are necessary. The safety spot is kind of obvious. First time on hard mats, out of a belt, etc. Anytime when there is a good chance of...

    Introduction

@Curlyfry7. I had a Mom pick up DD at gym X, and come to Gym Y (my gym) to pick up the boys. Proceeded to go home with the boys while leaving DD doing homework in the lobby. Didn't figure it out till she got home! Anyway, welcome to CB. Feel free to chime in - we're a good bunch! KRC

    MAG Naddour Cleared

@2G1B The "tweeting out" of new suspensions has been stopped. Only permanent suspensions are now reported. Newly suspended members are only added to the list after an interim hearing. This is the current procedure to the best of my knowledge. KRC
