This is a very good and important suggestion. Fixed time frames for activities are extremely beneficial. It enables your brain to fully concentrate on what you are doing. Quality time almost always beats quantity.
Speaking as a studied maths teacher, also: If you don't get your studies done in...
'Sucking in the abs' would go to far and won't allow for a proper arch-position.
It is however a good idea to pay some attention to tight abs. As Geoffrey Taucer said they are responsible for keeping you stable during your BHS.
I see this problem a lot in Tap-Swings. If you use your back...
Thank you all for your quick and informative answers! I guess there is no real 'right' structure per se but 'secret' rather seems to be to not loose track of where we want to go and what we need to achieve it. And to smuggle in bar conditioning wherever possible.
I rather tend to do too much...
Hello (again)!
It's been a while since I last posted here, maybe a few years even, god how time flies ... I've been reading here on and off but have been off gymnastics a little bit finishing my studies, stumbling through life as a young adult, all that stuff ...
Be that as it may, life has...
Oh my. It's incredibly good to read that post! I think we have all been suffering along with your gymnast here. I hope you had opportunity to celebrate accordingly. Conquering her fear under such pressure is so impressive, she must feel invincible now!
I can immage that it'll go uphill from here :)
Thank you all so much! It has been crazy and I still can't believe I actually did it. There a lots of new things to take in. (Not just the gym but also a new city, new people, coaching in English...) I also basically doubled my hours but I'm sure I'll get used to it .
Thanks as well for the...
Hello everybody,
those of you who have read one or two of my previous posts might know that I'm a coach in Germany coaching in what is a typical setting there: non-profit state funded set up gym, low hours, few kids etc. We ususally have 15-30 kids in the gym at the same time and if there are...
I actually prefer longer training sessions over several short ones. You save time with less warm ups and commutes. That being said the longest practice we have is 2.5 hrs because of scheduling reasons and the 6 yo usually go a max of 2 hrs straight. We do ocasionally have extra practices of 4...
Actually it is, there was an entire thread on that topic not long ago. https://chalkbucket.com/forums/threads/shorts-in-competition.62224/
You'll have to see what's written here in the context of what's been written there.
I think the point here is that the decision on whether or whether not to...
Break even - pretty much all gyms here are non-profit and require an even finacial situation to keep that status. There are slight ups and downs every year depending on whether there was a profitable event or we purchased equipment etc but nothing significant.
Gymnasts pay 2 Euros a week...
As CoachAlex said sit down with them and explain your reasons. Don't put it as if you're moving to a better gym, but rather a diffrent style, just as if you were moving to a different sport. Be sure to tell the coaches and the gym how thankfull you and your dd are for the time there and all the...
Right, so we sucessfully proved the deduction to be useless and unfair. Hurray!
I'd say we all go ahead and order shorts for our next comp leotard :D
(I might actually go for it next season, our girls leos have a black lycra bottom, so this is as easy as it can get)
Yes I thought it might fall under 'incorrect behaviour or attire'. Which is kind of the point to me: If you really want to deduct for attire, shouldn't the deduction be for the wrong sized leo rather than the gymnast trying to cover up in a compromising situation? (And I just don't consider that...
I'm actually not sure. I don't deduct it. I'll rather have the gymnast pick a wedgie than compete with their butt hanging out. I've spoken to coaches/gymnasts once or twice about getting the right sized leo though.
The problem with Figure Skating is a different rule, namely the one that doesn't allow skaters to stop their program without being heavily deducted.
With regards to options of covering as much parts of the body as you're comfortable with fs is one big step ahead of gymnastics.
The longer I am in this sport and the older I get the more I think the rules are a real gender issue.
It's not that I feel female athletes should cover up more, to be honest if it fullfills certain standards the scociety you live in agreed on (and those are not awefully strict in the one I grew...
Ok so I'm thinking this probably won't help at all.
If you're in a collar it will prevent you from throwing your head out but it won't prevent you from using the muscles you would normally use to do that and press against the brace. Thinking about it the resisatnce might actually enforce this...
