WAG Any experience with a scaphoid fracture?

I broke my scaphoid and radial tip. Problem was I was in South America at the time. They casted me there up past my elbow after I refused the surgery there. When I got back a week later I saw an ortho in the US. Took the cast off and gave me the choice of 8 weeks casted (shorter cast) and...

WAG How Can You Tell Who Qualifies

Top 7 AA provided they got a minimum of 34.00. Some regions get extra spots if other regions can't fill theirs.

    WAG What happens if...

It's unfortunate, but an example that in gymnastics, and in life, sh*t happens. I would tell my daughter that she at least got to compete, get her qualifying score to regionals and the medals will come in the mail. Bummer but life goes on. Not to sound cold hearted, but really if that is the...

WAG Not trying or try harder

Amen! I get frustrated when I hear coaches say things like "you need to go higher" "make it (duh!)" "go bigger". Yes but how about telling them HOW!? Anyone can stand there and say go higher. Tell them how! If you can't tell them HOW, then you need some technical training.

WAG When do you eat during a meet?

Our gymnasts have everything they need for the day in their backpack - water bottle, snack, extra hair stuff, etc. They bring this into the gym on arrival and put it somewhere. We encourage them to grab a bit of their snack whenever they need to in between events or during the down time. At...

WAG Some news on Geddert himself - suspended

I still don't think it would hold up in court. I was told by a lawyer that all those non compete contracts that coaches sign, which says they won't work anywhere near said gym if they leave, aren't worth the paper they are written on, so I can't imagine a judge forcing a minor to remain at a...

I also thought you cannot hold a minor to any type of contract? Right? Minors cannot legally sign a contract in the first place?

WAG New Mantra: I am not her coach

Even if it comes from the child (and if they are asking and you do not have a competitive gym background I'm assuming they are young?), please just don't try to help. If you say something different from the coach your daughter will be confused on who to listen to. As hard as it is, stick to...

Can you clarify on how they made level 9 dismounts harder? I missed that one so if you can point me in the right direction would be helpful! Thanks

WAG I am at a loss... looking for direction...

She told you what she wants to do. Today. For now. Until she possibly changes her mind because kids change their minds daily. If she was fine a week before vacation, this sounds a bit impulsive and dealing with an injury or fear is never a time to make a big decision. If this is the first...

WAG skills attained quickly or slow but perfection?

Because they probably see a good future in her, and maybe some of the "perfect" girls are slow learners, or due to fear or age will max out at a lower level in the end. It's good that they don't write her off for not winning the small stuff. Many great optional gymnasts never won the...

WAG How many coaches go to meets?

We send whomever coaches the team. In compulsories we send four coaches as we have event coaches. For optionals we send the bb/fx coach and the v/ub coach. This is for every meet, even state which sometimes means one kid in a session because they do the sessions by age.

    WAG Wrist and/or Ankle weights?

We will use light ankle weights for some conditioning - leg lifts, pullup pullovers, cast handstands, presses, rope. Also for leg swings/kicks. We don't use them for any kind of punching or pounding.

    Kyla Ross

We went to a meet in southern CA and Gym Max was there. Kyla came to cheer on her other teammates, moved mats, help out etc. Very humble and a true class act! Same for her coaches.

    Coaches Safety warning for coaches

Have you thought of helping through a skype or facetime session? I've done that a few times when away at a meet with only one gymnast, just to keep in touch with what the kids are doing back in the gym.

    WAG Coaches Fees

I always feel bad for parents at gyms that do it like that. It's punishing her because the rest of her team hasn't gotten to that level yet. Make your budget for the whole season, divide it equally amongst all the girls. Even if you have one kid at level 10 state she is representing her...
