My advice is to pick a few gyms that are drivable and attend a few practices as just an observer. Was fairly easy to walk in to a gym pre-covid and do this, will probably require an advanced call now with COVID precuations. Watch how the coaches & gymnasts interact, watch the the girls demeanor...

Oh I agree. Just baffling to me that he wasn't banned just based on the information that came out during Nassar's victim impact statements and the more information brought to light in the months after.

As far as shorts are concerned.... I've had teen athletes need to throw on shorts in the middle of the meet and we've just taken the .2 off her all-around score. At the end of the day their comfort level is more important than a small deduction. Do I wish the deduction didn't exist? Yes.

That rule got pushed back to August 2021 due to COVID (many gyms opted to keep the same leotards this season for $$$ reasons).
