    skills help

About the cast handstand, at my gym we do a drill (we call them "sushii rolls") where we do a kip forward roll off the bar. It helps to get you in the habbit of leaning your shoulders over the bar and driving your heels upward. That is what helped me though my casting still stinks ;-)

    What grips do you use?

I just got a new pair of Reisport velcro dowell grips. I'm breaking them ng now and they break in pretty quickly. They're really comfortable too. I like the wider grips too.

Do you think it is ok to cry?

Unfortunatly, I am easily upset with stuff at practice. Some advice is that is you do cry on the first or second event (early in practice) don't let that hold you back, because I did and I wish I hadn't. Sometimes I still cry at practices, but, overall, it's not the best thing. If you can, wait...

Questions about: Working at the gym, Front handspring on vault

About the front hanspring, have you tried vaulting on a dirrerent height of the vault? I had trouble getting a good "pop" off the vault at a low setting, then when I put it on 5, I was doing much better. Hope that helps at all.

    Flyaway Trouble

Thanks Everybody! All the advice helped a lot. I've got my flyaway back now. I'm going to compete bars from now on. I'm NOT going to lose this again! Anyway, thank you so much for all the great help!

    Wrist Support????

Hi! I'm sorry I don't know what they are called, but there is a brand that has a cheetah logo that I hear is really reliable. They also make ankle supports and some other stuff.

How to improve a tap swing?

The way I improved my tap swing was by arching my back on the back swing and throwing my toes forward when I swing forward, but maintaining good shape.

    Flyaway Trouble

I feel annoyed because I got my flyaway in, like, level 5, lost it, got it back, lost it again, got it back again and now I'm in level 7 prep op and I just won bars at the last meet. (I don't normally do that) Anyway, I suddenly lost it again, and I don't know why... ugh.:( I don't even let go...

    help! beam backwalkover trouble!

This may ormay not help, but it worked well for me. My coaches say to square out your hips like Spongebob Squarepants. Somtimes I needed to watch my feet land on the beam too.

    I'm home!!

Gee, When we go to meets, people are always nicer but the coaches yell at us for talking when we should be warming up. Oh well. Anyway, you did a fabulous job! Congragulations!:D

I dont know wat to do ppllleeeeezz help!!!

Some days make me feel like gymnastics stinks, but I know those days are just to keep me on track and try new things. Almost everyday I feel like I don't want to go to gym and I do anyway. I've gotten over the whole "gymnastics is all I have time to do" thing because I like it that way. I would...

    Handstands

No matter how much I practice holding my handstand, I can't seem to stay up. I've tried all the advice from my gym like going against the wall, pushing through my fingers and having somebody hold my legs. None of it seems to help me very much...:( Mabey I should work on more arm strength. :gloomy:

    Giant Flyaway

Today was a big day for me! I did my first giant flyaway (with a spot)! However, I didn't do it on our pit bar because I don't like doing flyaways there, so I went for it on a real bar :D! Sadly, I over-rotated and put my arm back when I landed (which your not supposed to do :o) and hurt myself...

    Skills to improve jumps?

At my gym, they tell us to push through our toes to get higher. Flexibility isn't really my forte, but I find that doing splits on the beam and then doing your jumps directly after your split works very well. You could also use elastic bands or ankle weights. :hyper::jump::bouncy::rotfl:

Trying to get somewhere with the press handstand

Help on press handstand I have the same problem. What seems to help me is when either a coach or a friend helps me, but doesn't completely lift me to handstand. That way I'm doing most of the work and getting used to it. I also recenty hurt my foot so I've been working on arm strength, which...
