1st bad fall on bars...Am I an overprotective mommy or is there cause for concern?

Falls happen all the time in this sport. It just cant be helped. I know that fall just about gave you a heart attack, but that was a very simple fall. Just wait til she splits the beam for the first time, falls off doing a backhandspring or peels off the high bar learning a giant! Seriously...

How Long Can Floor Music Be?

1:30 for JO. The time starts from the time the gymnast begins moving.... so if there's an introduction where you hold the beginning pose, that time doesn't count.

Moving to NoVa and need help finding great gym.

Oh I forgot to mention NVGA (opened a brand new gym this past spring). They really seem to focus on their prep op program more than the JO program. They may change now that they've hired Annia Hatch away from Loudoun. And of course, Loudoun Gymnastics. But I think these gyms are too far away...

Moving to NoVa and need help finding great gym.

I was just reading back through the posts.... to get to Apollo from West Springfield, you could just hope on Fairfax County parkway and then pick up some "back roads" to get over to Hoadly Road (where the gym is located).

Moving to NoVa and need help finding great gym.

O.K.... here goes. I don't know if you're still looking for a club or have found a good fit yet, but as I said, here goes!!! (Disclaimer: I have no vested interest here, it's just my own personal opinion from past experience and from still attending meets in which my DD's friends still...

Moving to NoVa and need help finding great gym.

Yes, that was a HUGE brouhaha... unfortunately tho, some of those people are still in power over there, and their egos tend to get in the way of operating an open and fair booster club..... just beware... I've been off this board for a while now, am going to go post about our experiences with...

Parents Trusting the coach. . .

How does she have "loose cartilage" in her knee without it being an injury? Just curious.

Parents Trusting the coach. . .

AGREE 100%!!!!! Back pain is NOT to be trifled with!! If you search for old posts here on CB, you'll see all kinds of back issues that were finally diagnosed as either stress fractures, spondylolysis, or worse yet, spongylolisthesis...... Gymnastics is temporary, these kids need their backs...

For those of you who know dance

Ballet is definitely the foundations, but it is BORING for the girls, as others have said. Is there a lyrical type of dance class? My DD did the jass as well years ago and loved it. I just watching the Lyrical dances too, they've just beautiful.... kind of a combination between the ballet and...

My daughter wants to quit gymnastics

Comp Gym Mom, I can empathize with your 100%!!! And the "quitting" is harder on us parents than it is on the child who is just "done" with it. My DD was also a Level 8 and decided that her once all encompassing passion for the sport was gone and she was tired of missing out on everything else...

    Maybe I'm just over reacting

High School Gymnastics are VERY RARELY mentioned in our newspapers!!! If it's not football, basketball, soccer or baseball... well, don't look for your name in the paper!

Parents, what do you wish you knew then that you know now?

Everything Bog said PLUS: Dont question them about practice when they hop in the car, they need that downtime!!! Do not obsess about meet scores - see Bog's comment about gym. being a marathon and not a sprint! I could go on and on too, but I'll stop now.

    Rec. Gymnastics- ARGH!

WOW!!! I have nothing to add that's not already been said. But I WAS going to ask you about checking out that former D1 program. I do know that they don't use it all day, every day. If you put together a good, well thought out proposal, do you think they might consider allowing you to use...

    Heel Contusion/Bruises

Ooohhhh... be very careful and take lots of time to let this heal!!! My DD did this exact same thing to her heel last July. She was doing standing backtucks repeatedly on her friend's basement floor..... welll, finally her heel gave out on her. I was so afraid she had fractured a bone...
