In heavy elite areas there are plenty of girls that do not make Nationals at all because they cannot compete against elite level girls. Therefore the college coaches are not able to see them at Nationals.
She is competing against the best in the sport. If she is JO then she is competing against the best in JO. If she is elite then she will compete against the best elites.
Plus you are not looking at it from the perspective of someone who is not trying for the elite route. There are no elite...
I agree with you. Gymnasts at the elite level are above and beyond those that stay JO. Frequently it seems that elites or drop back elites take spots from well deserving JO gymnasts at nationals. Which then means girls are not seen by college coaches which then effects scholarship offers. If...
I don't think it is impossible to do upper level gymnastics and manage a full day at school. My kids (3 year level 9 and a will be a level 9 next year) have done it very successfully. Straight A's all the time. My older dd even did college classes half days and HS classes half days and made...
I too found it more manageable in middle and high school because I made sure my kids have a study hall. Also, in our district starting in 4th grade there is built in time to almost every day for kids to get extra help and/or get caught up. Many kids use this time to do homework. Really it is...
Hmm, our gym and gymnasts do just fine when the gym closes for a week (twice a year, partial weeks 3 times a year). So I imagine taking a vacation for a week doesn't hurt and it certainly has never hurt my girls. Even 2 weeks off hasn't really hurt anything. My dd was actually out for a year...
Ok, currently, I don't think if an event specialist wins at Regionals that they can go to Nationals. IF they made it so, I would take my dd if she made it. Especially if she were a level 10 and hoping for college. If you don't do AA right now, you totally miss out on the exposure of possibly...
Honestly the times my girls have been scratched in the middle of the meet I was very glad. Both times things looked unsafe. Once my dd was coming back from injury. Adrenaline was way too much for her to vault safely. The other time, my dd kept balking on her full on floor. She had never had...
My dd took it last night. It took more than 90 minutes for sure. It was a lot of talk about grooming tactics - something that really kids much younger should learn as well. Of course in an age appropriate way.
If has been this long, then something else needs to be figured out. there is a girl on our team that refuses to go backwards. She does a backward roll. But then it is an aerial/RO series and a front full dismount. Front walk-overs and front handsprings work as well. Optionals is about having...
I imagine going upside down creates a lot of blood flow and pressure to the head and sinus area. Sounds painful to me! I would avoid another week or so.
You CAN do CW/RO series. My dd has done that before when her other series wasn't quite ready. But it won't score as well because it doesn't meet the requirements exactly.
I got the letter. So frustrating! I mean she has like 3 weeks left and now she has to do this? Ugh! Also, sent on a Monday due on Friday. These gymnasts are BUSY! Mine use their weekends to catch up. We don't have a weekend and she goes straight from school to practice and not home until 9...
That's a serious accusation about something that it doesn't seem like you know much about. I have heard good things about Everest. First hand information would be best in helping her make her decision.
The time will likely come for your younger child when there is something expensive she wants to do. On a month to month basis things have not always been equal for my 2 gymnasts and my 2 non-gymnasts. But the non-gymnasts have done other things like fly to spend weeks/months with grandparents...
