5yo Attention and Boredom in Gym

Wow, that totally stinks. I completely understand. My daughter is 8 years old, but in appearance is closer to 12 or 13 in height and weight. She hasn't been on a growth chart since she was 2 weeks old. She just loves gymnastics and we have been lucky enough to find a gym that let her work her...

    Parents Slow down!

My daughter is going to drive me crazy! She's an 8yo Level 4 who recently had her ankle casted for stress fractures in the growth plate. I mistakenly thought that this would hamper her abilities a little bit, yeah right! I can not get the child to stop running and using it. I have been taking...

    Year of the Dragon leo

I order my daughter the same size from both Melody and GK. They do run baggier in the butt.

Parents Ideas for displaying child's medals from meets

I took a 12x12 memory box & put a photo of my daughter in the middle and then put the medals around it (I removed the ribbons first). Saved a ton of space.

    Parents Puberty and gymnasts

East Coast, for a second there I thought you were posting about my daughter. 8 years 2 months, 4 foot 7ish inches last time I checked, and wavers between 88-92 pounds. She has been showing the signs recently too (especially the emotional ones, oh boy have those been fun!). She is the tallest...

    MAG What to wear?

My son wears the under-armour style shirts and shorts or his comp shirt and shorts to practice. Especially with the season starting in a few weeks, I want him to be comfortable in the tighter fit of the comp shirt. He has worn regular t-shirts to practice but likes the more fitted style of the...

Parents Reminder for parents - Meet Etiquette

I don't understand the whole anti-cheering thing that the gymnastics community has going on. Probably because I didn't grow up in the sport, but I don't know. The parents of our group cheer for our team. We cheer for each girl by name as they are waiting to start their turn on an event. In...

Why do many parents keep track of every girl's scores at meets?

I know several of the parents of girls on our team keep track of all of our girls. It's nice for me because I usually miss my daughter's score being posted. A few of them have said that they do it to keep busy and keep from stressing. I completely understand that because I take pictures of each...

Most Creative uses for Home Equipment, lol

When my son had a pirate themed birthday party this summer, we carried the beam outside and it became "the plank". The boys had sword fights on it. My daughter was not amused.

Average age of L4s on your team?

I was wondering if you could settle a curiosity for me - what is the average age of a L4 on your team? We have found in going to competitions in our area that our team is extremely young in comparison to the other teams we are competing against. Our L4s for the most part are in the 7-8 age range...

    Getting a scrunchie to stay...

This works with any hairstyle I have tried it on. Take one of those plastic rubberbands, you know the kind that people use to pineapple their hair with, personally I use the slightly larger ones in brown because my daughter has brown hair. Take the rubberband and loop it around the scrunchy...

    competition leotard prices...

This is going to sound strange but next time we get new comp leos I'm going to be begging to get more expensive ones. I can't remember how much we paid for our (between $60-$80), but I had to add the bling to each and every one on the team. (The person who was supposed to backed out, etc. It...

    Parents Weekly Schedule

Oh scheduling. A constant headache for me. Let's see, my 3 monkeys dictate my schedule. The older 2 are in school from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. during the week and the 3 year old goes to preschool Tuesday & Thursday mornings. The extracurricular activities shape up like this: Sunday - 3yo has...

how many HOURS PER WEEK does YOUR gym's team practice?

Our gym currently only has through level 6 so Level 4 trains between 9-10 hours a week and Levels 5 and 6 train between 12-13. By comparison, my son is on the Level 3 boys team and trains 2 hours a week. Somehow that doesn't seem very fair, does it? :)

Anyone else have little facial expressions or hand signals they use?

This isn't necessarily specific to gymnastics but my I love you symbol to my daughter is that I tap the side of my nose. Sometimes she needs to know it, but has reached the age where she pretends that her family is embarrassing. When I do it, the smile on her face is huge. I haven't had to...

Need some tips, suggestions for my brand new gymnast please

I have an extremely tall 7 year old so I kinda know what you are going through. Let's put it this way, we have a very new team (just levels 4-6 right now) and my daughter is the tallest of the group. Gymnastics is very much a struggle for her every day, but we have talked about how because she...

Hairpins allowed in hair at meets?

When my daughter's hair was longer, I had good luck with styling her hair when it was wet, adding a ton of gel, pulling it into the ponytail, and then making several braids in it then making those into a bun. Then came the hairnet and another rubberband and then the scrunchie and a ton of...

    Rebecca Bross Injury

Rebecca is my daughter's favorite too. I hope she is able to heal quickly and with as little pain as possible. It brought tears to my eyes to see her crying.
