    WAG Back Handspring Progressions

Not weird at all. With the roundoff, you have a lot more power going into the back handspring. It's much more difficult to do it standing.

    WAG Xcel?

Closest thing I could find: In order to compete in a sanctioned competition, an athlete must be a registered USA Gymnastics Athlete Member or Introductory Athlete Member (Levels 1-2 & Xcel). A gymnast may compete in a maximum of two (2) State meets per competitive year (one per season), either...

    WAG Xcel?

    But I wish you couldn't.

WAG First gymnast to be trained to do a high level skill

This doesn't address your question, but I thought about you when I came across this: http://swingbig.org/high-flying-part-2/

    WAG Front Handspring Help

I had her working it yesterday. I think it would help if the barrel had little spikes all over it. She is rolling up on it which isn't solving the problem. No matter. We will keep working it, but I can change that pass. She should have a nice front tuck on her own by states.

No split, no shoulder flexibility. Great vault.

    WAG Front Handspring Help

I have a girl who has a really great front handspring vault - not so much on the floor though. She squats it every time. Her arms always flail out to the side. I've tried tying them in to keep them by her ears and that's not helping. She has a really nice block on the vault, but why not on the...

WAG If she puts her hands down in side aerial, does it count as a fall?

Wouldn't it count as a dive cartwheel? Totally different if it gives you a flight requirement. For instance - I have a girl competing silver. She does a roundoff backtuck for her first pass. She has an inconsistent but lovely aerial she is trying to do for her second pass. If she puts her hand...

    WAG Xcel and JO

Not the point. I'm fine with my kids losing to other kids better than they are. My goal for them is be better at the end of the season than they were at the start - but that has little to do with scores. It's about being able to do a back handspring at the end of the season you couldn't do at...

    WAG Mononucleosis

I had it when I was 16. I'm 46 now. I lost over a month of my life! I barely remember it other than the not being able to swallow part. Lots of rest (as if you have a choice). Feel better soon.

    Excellent perspective. Thanks for that.

    WAG Xcel and JO

Gymdog, you missed my point. If JO did away with compulsories, those kids would stay in JO keeping a distinction between JO and Xcel.

Then why bother having two tracks? If there are that many gyms forgoing the compulsory levels, then change the compulsory levels! BTW, I'm in Region 6.

    WAG Xcel and JO

Yes, I know it's been talked to death here but I'm tired of my Xcel girls being slaughtered by girls skipping JO compulsory levels. It's really just not fair to have girls training 6-8 hours a week competing against girls training 16-20 hours a week. Will the USAG ever relax the rigidity of...

    Level 8

We have a boys power tumbling team, but no real coach. I've been asked to put together the optional pass. I don't know how to add up the degree of difficulty to keep him within the limits. Can anyone help me?
