    Parents Why

Practicing: safety issue when DD was competing. Practicing back handsprings a totally different issue that shooting hoops in our driveway. Not watch practice: Now when DD was small, I did stick around for gymnastics practice- wanted to be around if she got injured, etc. She started competing...

    Parents When to quit?

Mine quit in 6th grade. She had a rough level 8 season (ending with a fall on floor at the state meet, crushing any. hopes of making it to regionals). She had multiple pains due to Severs and tendinitis as well. I did ask her to stick it out for a few months post state to make sure that she...

    Parents Life After Gymnastics

Mine left gymnastics after level 8 (right after her 6th grade year). She jumped straight into soccer and basketball for her middle school. Has been doing very well with both (starter in soccer 7th and 8th grade) and was starting point guard for her basketball team this past season. She even...

    WAG Lily’s HOPES Classic results...

After the 2nd time she came off, I actually said out loud to my screen, “please make her stop”. When she dismounted and hit her head on the bar, I felt sick, That was awful to watch! Also wanted to say congrats to Lily!! She looked relaxed and confident. Good luck in Ohio!

WAG What Were They Thinking - BWO Clinic

Looks like they changed the flyer to ages 5-9. Guess whatever you said to them worked. :-)

WAG Moving from Texas to Tennessee

I am in TN but not from the Nashville area (we are in the eastern part of the state). To the OP, my dtr left the sport a few years ago so I am “out of the loop” where gyms are concerned. However, if I were you, I would see how the Nashville gyms did at State and Regionals this season (Region...

    Parents Sole circle/squat on

It helped my daughter because sometimes when she did her free hip, she would sometimes be leaning a bit too far back when she made the move to squat on. Being able to do the sole circle gave her a chance to save it.

    Parents Sole circle/squat on

Mine struggled with the squat on her level 6 year so her coach taught her the sole circle as backup. After that, she did not miss a squat on again and she usually scored well at meets with or without it.

Parents Mental Issue with Squat On

I was about to ask if she had learned a sole circle. It’s what helped my daughter when she started struggling with consistency on the squat on. Once she had the sole circle, the weight seemed to lift and she didn’t miss the squat on again. Wasn’t sure if they can use it in compulsory though?

    Parents Sacrificing other activities

Yes! When DD walked away from gymnastics a year and 1/2 ago, she walked right into playing other sports at her school. There was a bit of a transition period but I think she had an easier time because she had been exposed to other things while in gymnastics. Her school coaches were thrilled...

    Parents Sacrificing other activities

When mine started out at age 6, we fit in other sports that were on a rec level (practice once a week, games on Saturday). She actually played soccer and basketball for several years since she was going 3 days a week to gym. It was only when she moved to optionals (5 days a week) that...

WAG I am at a loss... looking for direction...

Mine quit after level 8. She was 12 and had one year of middle school behind her when she decided to be done. I think it's around this age where not only skills get harder, they really see what they are missing out on. We told her from the time she started at age 6 that when she was done, we...

Parents Totally off topic question...when did you have your DD start shaving her legs??

This is what has happened with my daughter! She only has to shave maybe every 6-8 weeks. Very lucky! Once I started shaving, it was every 4 days.

Parents Totally off topic question...when did you have your DD start shaving her legs??

Mine only started this in the last 6 months (after she turned 13). However, her leg hairs were really not that noticeable and I left it completely up to her on when she wanted to start. She has been using a regular disposable razor and does just fine with that. Good luck!

Parents Northern Atlanta area high schools and gyms

Never mind, just saw the other video and it does sound like she is trying GEG. That must be a heck of a drive for her parents though!

Parents Northern Atlanta area high schools and gyms

That was Georgia Elite's gym but the video from FloGymnastics said that it was a National Team Camp. I wonder if they were just hosting TOPS and Elite girls from other gyms in Georgia for preparing to go to camp in Texas?

    WAG Level 7 bars

That's what I was thinking. It would be tough to do the required dismount from the low bar. I suspect that the judges would be tougher on such a routine since the levels below 7 require a bar change.

Parents Hi all new here 5 year old wrist problems

My former gymmie started having pain in one wrist while training level 7 (increased back stepouts on beam). It was managed with wrist guards and limits on back stepouts repetition- she was diagnosed tendinitis which was manageable. However, I knew something was really wrong the next summer...

    Parents Quitting

Mine "retired" about a year ago after competing for 6 years (6 to age 12). The thing is, even though she was as sure as a 12 year old could be, when she got to that final month she was still ambivalent about leaving even though she was excited about trying other sports. I think what helped...

WAG Region 8 New Compulsory Schedule

From what I heard this past season, TN had only one compulsory state meet (spring instead of fall). I know their fall state meet attendance had been shrinking over the last few years since they started offering the spring state meet.
