I just got back from states. On the bright side, my teams l3 and l4 won. L5 came in 3 and our optionals are competing now. Well, I had a pretty bad meet myself. I got a 7.8 on bars, I fell on my squat on-something I never fall on. I made my routine flow-but the fall messed me up. Then on beam I fell on my cartwheel-after landing both in warmup. I had a decent floor routine, 9.25, 3 place. I wouldn't vault-something in my brain told me I couldn't I went for my third warm up-and overjumped the board. We are now waiting for my xray to come back, my ankle may have fractured.Basically, I couldn't do aa bc I didn't vault and had a really rough meet. Any tips on coming back strong, once my ankles better?

It's ok I just competed states last night, at level 9 you can declare event specialty, which is what I am, at state to make it to regionals, which mean I wouldn't compete against anyone just myself and someone told my coach that basically I would get 2 gold medals, I had a really good floor routine, 8.825 highest of the year. But I did floor first and sat for 2 event before going to beam. I fell, 8.25 still a high for this year. Well right after I got off beam some came and told my coach why put a kid as an event specialist if they couldn't get a 9.5. Then he proceeded to tell her that I wouldn't get gold medals I would get the medals I would get in the age group I was in but alone from everyone else. Which make no sense what so ever. Anyway I went home empty handed for the 3rd meet in a row, I was really upset at first but I'm ok with it now, I mean it's just a medal. And consider 3 weeks ago I was close to not doing states and almost forced to quit i think I did really well, and so did you! Hold your head high everyone has bad days! It's how you handle the bad days that makes you a champion!

Aww I'm sorry to hear that :( I really don't care about going home empty handed, it's just really discouraging that I fell on both beam and bars, and had to scratch vault :confused: My coaches are obviously annoyed that I fell especially since it was states, and they are even more upset that I hurt my ankle...again.

I only get upset right after it happens, I've scratched, it's not fun, but sometimes it has to happen they understand sometimes mistake happen you're only human

Event specialists for levels 9 and 10 in our state need qualifying scores...you need a 9 on your particular event to get to States, and then you need a 9 at States to go to Regionals....and event specialists have to be declared well before the state meet.

You need an 8.0 at any meet before state, then a 9.5 at state to make regionals, you declare the day of state.

First get some rest and distraction, something not gymnastics related. And then, with a cool head you review what went wrong and what you can improve so it doesn't happen again. Once that's done you wipe the meet off your mind. There's nothing you can change about it, you have decided what you want to improve and now (after your ankle is fully healed) you concentrate on that.
Don't get too psyched up about the falls, every, every, every gymnast has horrible days. (I remember years ago I couldn't get myself over the horse in PE right after my teacher told the class I was a gymnast. The thing had a different colour than the one I trained with. Wasn't happening, not even a squat through. It's funny now, it was a disaster for me back then.) Just remember: your body has learned how to do the moves, an injury doesn't change that. It's all in your mind and you need to be patient with your mind. Do the fear recipe, go back to what you're comfortable with and stay there as long as you need to.. Don't talk or let someone talk yourself into trying something you're not comfortable with.
Think positive. Don't set yourself the goal of not falling or not wobbling but of improving stability or your cartwheel or focusing your concentration or you fluency, you get the point.
Look forward. Bad days happen. Good days will come if you let them. Give every day the chance to be the best day of your life. ;)

My daughter had a rough States also, she was doing her swing/half turns and the coach got too close and her foot hit his shoulder, stopping her dead in her tracks so she did not make Regionals.

They award "duplicate" medals to event specialists so it was kind of a poor way for that person to describe it but basically accurate. Still rude to come up like that in the first place, but oh well! Glad you could compete.

I guess that kinda make sense, I was happy with how I did for about 10 secs then he came over and I started crying, I get over emotional sometimes. Today I could care less about those medals I guess it was a spur of the moment kinda thing

Sorry for the rough meet and the injury. Focus first on finding out what is going on with your ankle, then work with your coach on getting your skills back.
