Bermuda Gymnastics

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association seeks a National Program Director/Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach.

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association (located on the beautiful island of Bermuda, a 2 hour direct flight from several east coast U.S. cities) is a registered Bermuda charity dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of interest in gymnastics activities in Bermuda. It is the sole governing body for gymnastics in Bermuda, liaising with the Department of Youth and Sport and the Bermuda Olympic Association to promote both gymnastics for all and also the development of national teams for participation in international events.

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association also operates a recreational and competitive gymnastics program with over 600 active participants/members, based at the fully equipped National Training Center and supplemented with satellite classes around the island. The well established competitive girls team has 50 members from pre-team to USAG Level 10/USAIGC Level Premier, and a developing competitive boys team currently competes up to USAG Level 7; this includes a National Team with opportunities to participate in major international competitions.

The recreational program offers gymnastics classes for children age 12 months through adult, as well as non-traditional programs: Parkour, Cross training, fitness, tumbling/cheerleading, and birthday parties.

Bermuda Gymnastics is inviting applications for the following positions, which will help our thriving program continue to grow:

National Program Director/Head Coach

The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Bermuda Gymnastics Board of Directors.


Duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the recreational program (both at the National Training Center and at satellite locations around the island) and boys and girls competitive gymnastics programs

  • Coach and Develop competitive gymnasts of all levels, in particular optional level female and/or male gymnasts competing USAG Level 6-10/USAIGC Level Silver - Premier and in FIG events

  • Be up to date on all rules and regulations for FIG, USAG, and USAIGC competition

  • Oversee and develop lesson plans, conditioning plans, and safe drill progressions to teach fundamental skills with proper technique, from pre-team to elite level

  • Organize and arrange the competitive schedules, including coordination of overseas meets, competitions and associated travel arrangements. Travel to overseas competitions as required.

  • Manage and assist the Bermuda Gymnastics staff in directing and developing the recreational programs; evaluate all areas of programming under supervision to ensure program quality and sustainability.

  • Train and develop team coaches and additional staff (e.g. junior coaches/part-time coaches)

  • Provide management of facilities and equipment including recommendations for renovations/purchases

  • Consult with the Board of Directors on annual strategic planning, budget analysis, and fundraising implementation

  • Assist in organizing home competitions, and act as Meet Director/Meet Referee as required

  • Promote continued expansion of Bermuda Gymnastics programs, meets and camps

  • Organize/teach recreational gymnastics from beginners to pre-team level as required

  • Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support and guidance

  • Adhere to the Bermuda Gymnastics Code of Conduct
The following qualifications are required for National Program Director/Head Coach:

  • 10 years of gymnastics coaching experience at a senior level (club or college), including the ability to hand spot for safety and skill progression; together with a minimum of 5 years of supervisory and administrative responsibilities and previous experience organizing successful gymnastics events.

  • Experience as a national team director, program director, club owner, or head coach

  • Excellent communication skills including a high degree of computer literacy

  • Proven ability to train and develop coaches at all levels

  • Experience with maintaining a facility and moving/setting up equipment

  • Attain USA Gymnastics Professional Membership, including Safety Certification and Background Check, as well as be CPR & First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment.

  • Fluency in English (the official language of Bermuda)
The following qualifications are considered desirable for National Program Director/Head Coach:

  • International experience as an athlete or coach; recent experience coaching girls and/or boys competing in USAG Level 6-10/USAIGC Level Silver - Premier and FIG competitions

  • Experience with belt spotting and knowledge on setting up/maintaining spotting rigs

  • Interest in and experience with teaching recreational gymnastics classes, including Parkour, cross training, tumbling, trampoline and cheer

  • A recognized gymnastics coaching certification

  • Judging experience

  • A dance background and/or the proven ability to choreograph optional beam and floor routines

  • Be familiar with or fluent in a second language of the Pan American region

Assistant Head Coach

The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Head Coach.


The primary responsibilities of the position are as follows:

  • Identify, coach and develop competitive gymnasts at all levels; in particular female and/or male gymnasts competing USAG Level 6-10/USAIGC Level Silver - Premier and in FIG events

  • Assist in organizing and arranging competition schedules, including overseas meets, competitions and associated travel arrangements. Will travel approximately 6-8 times per year.

  • Be up to date on all rules and regulations for FIG, USAG, and USAIGC competition

  • Assist Head Coach in overseeing and developing lesson plans, conditioning plans, and safe drill progressions to teach fundamental skills with proper technique, from pre-team to elite level

  • Assist with training and developing team coaches and additional staff (e.g. junior coaches/part-time coaches)

  • Assist with providing management of facilities and equipment including recommendations for renovations/purchases

  • Consult with the Head Coach on annual strategic planning, budget analysis, and fundraising implementation

  • Assist in organizing home competitions, and act as Meet Director/Meet Referee as required

  • 5 years of gymnastics coaching experience at a senior level (club or college), including the ability to hand spot for safety and skill progression; together with at least 2 years of supervisory and administrative experience.
