My DD is competing in her 1st L8 meet this weekend and is still have trouble with twisting. She is planning on competing a half but sometimes she is a little short on that too. How far around does she need to get that half to get credit for the B skill?

She needs to get to 46 degrees to get credit for the B, but will receive an up to .2 or .3 deduction for incomplete twist...plus it will be incredibly hard to land! Though back twisting is an incredibly important skill to learn, in this instance I would encourage B tumbling to be a front pike or layout and then get the other 3 Bs from dance.
