DD's coach had them on the bars for almost 2 hours yesterday....probably the longest they've spent on the bars at once ever at practice.

DD came into the lobby afterward and showed me her hands, with fresh new rips on them, I told her "those are called rips, congratulations!" (She looked at me like I was nuts, lol I think it's kind of like a gymnast's right of passage...maybe I am just nuts). She also had a cut/blister on her hip.

As we were leaving she goes "I kind of like the bars now"
I said "Didn't you like the bars before?"
She says "No. I LOVED the bars before.....now I just LIKE them"

I know. I was surprised they worked on it for basically their whole practice. They did some conditioning at the beginning and at the end, with free tramp time for the last 10 minutes. They're getting ready for L3 tryouts so coach is working on repetition for all the event routines. I'm sure next practice they'll focus on another event. Coach just wants their muscle memory to kick in so they have all the skills they need.

Reactions: sce
Typical girl response to seeing rips on the hand: "ewwwwww!"

My gymnast's response (the first time): "cool! Look dad..... RIPS!!!!"

But we did eventually get her grips as she was getting rips all too often.
