In level 10.

For state, isn't it an all around score? 34.0? I don't remember.

To qualify to regionals, is it an all around score? or placement at state?

I know nationals is placement at regionals. But what places make it? top 10? Seems like too many, but I don't know.

Is it possible to qualify to state, regionals and nationals if you are an event(s) specialist?

32 local>state
34 at state>regionals
top 7 in each of the 8 age groups at regionals>nationals

specialist>state> yes

specialist>regionals>nationals>level 10> no

Really? I thought you could do regionals as a specialist? And I also thought if you placed 1st as a specialist, you made NIT in that event? Is that not true? (my daughter does AA, so doesn't affect me or her, but that's just what I've heard)

I was told this as well, my dd's teammate was a 10 specialist last year and she was hoping to place 1st to get to Nationals on her event.

It is up to the discretion of each state and region to decide for themselves whether to include event specialists. I am unsure if any regions currently allow them.

From rules and policies:

b. Gymnasts who did not qualify to the Jr. Olympic National Championships or NIT in the AA, but have won an event(s) at Regionals, will qualify to the JO-NIT in those event(s).

BUT, I do not think most Regions currently allow event specialists to qualify to regional championships. So if a gymnast lives in one of these regions, they would have to qualify to regionals based on AA score, but could then qualify to NIT as event specialist.

Also, I think that you have to have a score of 34 to qualify for Nationals as well. The level 10 at DD's gym was an alternate in her region but got to go when a girl from another region was in the top 7 but had a score below 34.

well, kinda. ^^^ some times (every year i can remember...lol) the score is "adjusted" when regions can't fill 56 spots because they all can't get that 34. capiche?

In my region, individual event specialists can compete at regionals (qualifying score is a 9.0 on the event). Don't know for sure if they win their event, if they qualify to NIT. I thought that when USAG voted to allow ESs that it was for regionals and below, not sure if a subsequent ruling supersedes that. I thought regions had to allow it now but maybe I missed something.

I know my region allows event specialists at regionals. And last year some girls made nationals stating but it was stated they'd be competing for a different region. Guess that region didn't have enough girls who made the 34??

This is true and we've seen it many times at JO Nationals where a weaker region only has 5 or 6 girls qualify with a 34 or above and other regions will fill those holes on the "team"...they fill the holes with the prior year's team winners at JOs who get to send their girls first..i.e. if Region 5 won the Jr B division in 2009 and region 7 was second, then, in 2010, when there were holes on other region's teams, Region 5 was first and then region 7 was second to fill those spots.

As far as event specialists, they do not compete at JO Nationals. However, they can be eligible to compete in the NIT meet ( and the ones we saw in that meet were those who had won their event at Regionals with a greater than 9.0 score). I think the confusion on this is that some people lump JO Nationals and the NIT as one meet and call it "Nationals" but actually the event specialist is only eligible for the NIT (and that's if their region allows them in the Regional meet)

The smallest Regions, like Region 2, sometimes don't even have 6 or 7(or 12 for level 9 Westerns) in some age groups, let alone 6 or 7 scoring 34. Just for comparison, Region 2 had 64 level 10's at Regionals last year, Region 1 had 184.
