Proud Parent
I have been watching my daughter fine tune her level 7 bars. Her first meet is in January.

In her giants, she seems to have a slight arch in her tummy at about 20 degrees short of handstand, and then her tummy brings her the rest of the way up until she stops at for a split second at vertical. It seems like she should stay in a piked position a little longer, but then she would pike over the vertical. Which one is a bigger deduction?

In her free hip circle, she can get to a handstand, but she throws her head back. If she doesn't throw her head back, she is above horizontal but far from a handstand. Which one is better for scoring?

For her straddle cast, her old coach told her to do a straight body cast to 45 degrees and then straddle. Her current coach wants her to practice aiming to land her feet on the bars and then sort of rolling up to a handstand. Which technique do you agree with?

Thanks in advance for all the responses!

Would need a video to answer your questions. Overall...you what current coach wants.

Simply put, the girl who doesn't have these errors will beat your girl. That being said, What oopski said.

Don't worry about the deductions. let her coach work with her on the progressions and let him address the form issues in the order that he needs to do it according to plan. Trying to "short cut" the process just to get a better score now will only harm her progress in the long term. Correct giants are essential to everything else that will follow on bars….just give it time and accept that it is very common to start competing with less than ideal giants.
