my understanding is there will be a few changes to level 6/7 and very few to levels 8-10. i know there will be 2 levels 8s. one that is similar to the current code, and one that wil allow Cs to be more of a bridger to level 9.
So, any opinions on what will be the most common route for those who compete and do well at current level 7 this upcoming year? Do you think most will then compete a full year at new level 7? Or is the step from current level 7 to new level 7 not going to be much of a step up? Of course, I realize that plenty of girls spend multiple years at current level 7, so there's no predicting where my DD could be come August of 2013. Heck, by then she may have decided that she wants a life and will have moved on. Just trying to predict the future.
I think alot of this will depend on vault - I'm not sure what the vault changes will be but that was certainly the hardest step from 7 to 8 in this current cycle (at least for my dd).
New level 6- beginner optional- only 1 B skill. Current 7 requires 2 B skills. Also, current 7 allows some UB C skills to be performed at B value. I understand this will not be an option.
New level 7- advanced beginner optional- 2 or 3 B skills and some C skills will count toward B value. Current level 8 requires 4 B skills and gives some B credit for C skills.
New level 8- intermediate optional- 4 B skills and one C skill allowed per event for B credit. Similar to current level 8, but only allowable C skills presently are dance and certain UB skills.
My personal opinion is that if a girl is successfully competing at level 7 for this coming season, 2012-2013, that she will be more than ready to progress to the NEW level 7 provided the changes are similar to proposed changes. It would mean the addition of possibly 1 B skill max.
hmm... So in level 6, if a gymnast does a a clear hip to handstand because she is uptraining the handstand and doesn't have good control yet, will she get a deduction? This has happened to dd a few times this year, but she is prep-op and it just counts as a B.
So, no new "requirements" for L8, only more options to perform higher skills? Of, course, I am sure in order to place well in the new level, you will need to "up" the level of difficulty. But from this description, it really appears that the new level 7 is the one that is getting changed more than the new 8.
I suppose we will have to wait until the final changes are made. I was just wondering if any more had been noted in the past couple months...
interesting discussion, regardless.
