I Bet You Didn't Know That...

It took Shawn over a year to get her kip!!!

These videos are really fun to watch. This one is about the hardest skills to learn.

LOL!! That's so cute!! It totally makes her human--knowing that such a "basic" skill was the hardest for her to learn and she is an Olympic gold medal winner!!!!

That Alicia Sacramone didn't start gymnastics until she was 8 years old??? That's relatively old considering everyone else on the olympic team started when they were 3. It just goes to show you that it doesn't really matter what age you start gymnastics--it's the hard work, effort, and determination that takes you to the top!!!

Amanda Borden (captain, 1996) wasn't allowed to compete bars for her team because she also could not do her kip.

I did not know that!! Well, good thing there are FOUR events in gymnastics!!!

I always see Amanda Borden commentating for the All Star Cheer competitions now that are televised like the NCA and Worlds competitions. I wonder if she cheered in college instead of competing in gymnastics?

We went to an event out here that Courtney Kupets was at, she said it took her forever to get her kip also.

It took me two years to learn my kip. I basically couldn't compete in bars for two years. It was funny but embarrsing so see all these 7 year-olds going "I learned my kip!" and dancing around and I'm like "hehe, I still haven't learned mine..." So I was 14 when I finally learned my kip. And I didn't start gymnastics till I was 12 so go Alicia!
