On average, how long does it take to perfect new skills? Weeks? Months? I have a tendency to feel like a failure when I'm imperfect, mostly because I don't know if I'll ever get the skills that I struggle on to look cleaner.
If it helps, I'm in Level 7 with most of my Level 8 skills now, and I...
If you are using a step down technique (one foot at a time) on a toe hand, when are you supposed to put your first foot on the bar? In handstand? At horizontal (coming down from a cast handstand of course)? I'm still a bit confused about the timing of it, which is making my toe hands look like...
I just got back from practice, and I FINALLY got my arms completely straight. Yay! I think it was probably the compression out of the kip, I put my arms a bit further apart (not too wide) and made sure to push my shoulders to my ears, and it was 100x easier to not only get to handstand but to...
One thing that I have noticed is that I kip with straight arms, my arms bend as I lean forwards, and then they straighten again at around 45° from vertical. Why might this be? (I'm a pretty tall— for a gymnast anyways— and have sort of long arms as well.)
Is it possible to specialize in multiple events? Because beam is definitely my best event but floor is normally very consistent. In terms of scoring I've never gotten less than a nine on floor, and I don't often lose skills after I get them consistently.
Is it possible for me to become a good enough Level 10 to compete for a college (assuming I don't quit or face any major setbacks such as injuries)? I started on team a little less than two years ago (I'm 13 now), I scored out of 4/5 last season, and this year I competed level 7. On beam I have...
Yeah, all of my teammates do straddle. But my coach said my arms were a lot better today, so I guess that's progress?
Is it a common issue though? I've been in the sport for around 20 months, and this is still a kinda new skill. Will it improve with time as well?
Thanks a ton! Also, I'm doing a straight body cast handstand since I hurt my hip and can't straddle, does that make a difference? I've only had it for 3 or so weeks, and it's consistently to handstand but I'm still taking a .1 or .2 deduction on each. Thanks again.
My all-around scores this season have been absolutely horrible because of bars. My highest score was a 35 or so, because I was scoring in the 7s on bars. My coach changed my routine (Level 7), so I do toe on toe off to handstand instead of free hips. Anyways, the biggest problem I have is bent...
