It would be great if they spotted her but they do not believe in spotting on beam or floor. They will stand near the beam but never spot. I guess the philosophy is if they cant do it on their own, they shouldnt be spotted. Another girl that day was placed in a time out for not doing fly-aways.
What is your gyms policy on dealing with children who have fears? My daughter tends to be fearful especially learning new skills. It takes her longer than most to learn new things because of her fears. The beginning of the summer it was BHS on beam and cast hand stands. Now she has those but...
I suspect that is what the gym will be doing - not competing level 6. I was told that if she competes as a level 5 she would be progressing. That instead of a BWO she would compete a BHS, do switch leaps on floor, etc. But I am hung up on the fact that it is still 2 years of repeating - 2...
I am not sure if they will compete level 6 or level 7. They are very "secretive" about talking levels. Everytime I discuss levels I am told that no decisions will be made until the end of the summer. The owner just stated that all optionals will need giants.
I spoke with her coaches and the owner. Their feelings are no giants by end of August no moving up. I have read the new guidelines for usag and from what I understand the new level 6 does not need giants but can do other skills. However it is a gym policy that they have their giants. I am doing...
No we do not want to switch gyms. I am hoping that she gets her giants soon. If not hopefully they will allow her to just train and compete when she is ready. I just can't see sitting through another year of the same skills, hearing the same song over and over again.
In a nutshell my daughter has been a competitive gymnast since she was 7. This will be her 4th year competing. First yr level 5 finished with a mid34 but had some fear issues with flyways and back tucks so repeated level 5. Did great as a second year, placed in AA and finished in the 37 range...
Totally happened to my daughter last year. We were unhappy with current gym & went for trial on a Friday night. Multiple issues for leaving - saying she was moving up a level then having her repeat level, coach yelling too much among other things Told gym we were checking out I needed to talk...
Would you consider shouting across a gym floor " Your not trying, your mom says you are & you're not. And dont go home complaining to your mother. XXX is trying thats why she is improving & you're not" abusive? I would & that is why I am seriously considering leaving & pulling my daughter...
Update - So after thinking about all of this (stewing actually) I brought my daughter for a trial at another gym on Fri. She stayed for a practice - liked the new gym & I spoke with their coach who felt my daughter could do level 6. Sat morning the owner of current gym calls me & tells me...
Also forgot to mention - last week before the meet her coach said she was ready for 6 - that this would have been her last 5 meet. Then she did well at meet & the day after the meet the HC said she should stay a 5. So I guess this is aldo what makes me question their intentions. Is it for my...
From my talk with the HC he wants her to uptrain as a 6 while compete as a 5 - thats what was said on Mon. Yet on Tuesday does not want to pull her out of the lv 6 meets. You cant compete as a 6 then drop back to a 5 so this is why I am so confused. She would be the only one "staying back"...
She now has all skills- is just missing the angles in bars. We had a long talk yesterday but it went around in a circle - I felt like it was getting no where. He said something about if we keep her 5 she would do amazing at states.
So long story short - my daughter is 8. Initial plan for this season was to compete a few level 5 meets then do lv 6. She did 2 meets already - took 1 pl AA & 2nd pl AA. Last week coach said she is ready to do lv 6. I signed her up for meets & paid the $. This past weekend she had 2nd meet...
This sounds good. I just hope she'll get it down by Jan. I dont know why this really bothers me. Sounds silly but level 6 states is only 1 hour away & level 5 states is 9 hours away. I really dont want to drive the 9 hours & spend $400 when she already competed states at this level last...
The coach more or less left it up to my daughter. Excel as a 5 or stuggle as a 6 (at least struggle in the beginning) The thing that really gets me is there are 2 or 3 kids who didnt even do 5 that just did one meet for mobility purposes who will now compete 6. Its like they arent pushing my...
So I wrote in about 2 months ago - daughter competed level 5 last year, went to states & scored in mid 34 range. During middle of summer was having trouble with 6 skills - couldnt get fly away, ROBHSBT pass. Now has all skills for 6 - just cannot connect yet on bars. Plan was to compete 2 or...
I usually write down the scores so I have an idea during awards where/if my daughter would place. It is also good for my nervous energy. I wouldnt go so far as telling another parent what there childs overall score was & I certainly wouldnt go out of my way to obtain a childs score. If I see...
