    Parents Skipping level 3... Thoughts?

Completely agree! My daughter started gymnastics at 9, competed level 3 as a 10 year old, tested out of 4 & 5 at one meet to compete 6 the next season. Broke her leg before state that year (by hyperextending her knee) but still went on to 7, 8 & then 9 this past year at 14. If she'd gone to...

Parents Can you "create" a superstar gymnast?

Same path. Did ballet, swimming, soccer & ice skating then started gymnastics a few weeks before turning 9. Made new L3 team 6 months later & competed it as a 10 year old (fall birthday). She's in L9 this year as a 14 year old. Not a superstar but certainly not a traditional path to upper...

    Parents Non Score Related Goals

Have fun & don't get hurt are always my goals for my gymmie. She has those plus usually hit all my routines. She's been struggling with growth spurts throwing off beam tumbling & bars especially. So one meet it was make her connections for bonus (like switch leap back tuck and BH BT series)...

    Parents Gymnastics Pins

We've never bought a pin & mine is a L9. They may be popular in another area but around here they aren't a thing.

    Parents For all parents . . .

Wait - needing to hold phones with 2 hands isn't normal? I'm not sure I breathe while mine is on bars & beam. L9 may be the death of me this season. I barely survived L8!

Parents New Gym, struggling with Coach Communication

If you do end up emailing the coach the vault is a Tsuk (short version of a more complicated name). My daughter loved it when they first started doing drills for it but thought it was called a "soup". LOL! But honestly, that coach doesn't sound very nice. She was doing exactly what he asked her...

    Parents north Dallas gyms?

Metroplex is in Allen, suburb north of Dallas. Large gym, separate team gym w/a very successful program.

    Parents Sole Impact for sever's

For more padding on beam my daughter wears 6 inch wrist bands she pulls over her heels/ankle. Mostly just when she's working back tucks either switch leap BT or BHS/BT series. It was a happy accident that started this after I somehow bought 6 inch under armour wrist bands instead of 3 inch ones...

    Parents Update on mental blocks

My daughter didn't start gymnastics until a few weeks before she turned 9 but about 6 months later she made level 3 team - without having a ROBH. She was the *very* last person on her level 3 team to get it. She doesn't have a naturally flexible back or shoulders - but she had a lot of...

    Parents Update on mental blocks

When I got this text yesterday I thought of this post & had to share. We did a 30 min private w/her coach last week where he told her that she needed to "trust the process". She's a type A perfectionist & needs reminding that she can't fix everything on her own. Since last Wednesday I've been...

    Parents Update on mental blocks

Does she say or know why it's scary now? Is she doing the meet but just not doing the BH? I hope so. I wish I had some good advice. I just hope it's something she can overcome sooner rather than later.

    Parents Likelihood of College Gymnastics

We're heading into level 9 at 13 and still know it's a long shot for a college gymnastics scholarship. She's on track for it & wants to do it but until we see how L9 goes there's no sense in thinking about it too much. But, she can do 2 years at L9 and then still do 3 years at L10. She got a...

Parents Younger DD got an invite

Congrats! At one point I had 2 on team (one compulsory & one optional) & one in preteam. It was nice just going to one location for their activities but I also felt like we should just direct deposit a paycheck to the gym! LOL!

    Parents Back handspring fear

Very normal & very common. And not just with kids in the beginning levels. Plenty of girls in optional levels have lost their series, giants, front tumbling, back tumbling - you name it. It's more the norm than the exception. Everyone thinks this sport is so physically demanding but it's equally...

Parents Is strength a deal breaker?

Strength will only become more necessary as she progresses. But it will happen w/more hours & more conditioning. Helping to build strength at home is easy w/a few exercises she can do a few times a week. No need to write off her future in the sport at 5. Most 5 year olds have pipsqueak arms!

    Parents Bridge kickover to bhs

For level 7? I haven't seen a bridge kickover on beam but the most important thing is getting that connection for it to "count" as a series. My daughter had a major block over back walkovers for 7 & ended up starting the season with a handstand to BH. Personally I hated it because there was no...

    Parents Bars question

Yay! Glad she got it. I was coming to add to the give it time, trust the process, trust your coaches side but am pleased that it's already a non issue. :) And yes, this will only be the first of many things that you'll want to step in & try to fix for her. Mine is 13 & will be competing level 9...
