DD is already looking for music for next fall for L8. She is retiring her old music and routine she has had the last 2 years after states next month. She would like something slower than she has now and classical, like the 300 violin type, but not as common. Any favorites?
DD can never seem to stick her landings and is always taking a big step (or sometimes 2) on all her landings. Any advice to help her stick them? She's a level 6/7 and it happens in each event and tumbling pass
I would really love to have an independent eye critique DD's beam and floor routine to give some insight. She's kind of hit a score plateau. Are there any coaches or judges that would be so kind to do that? She's a level 6 if that makes difference.
Does there have to be a connected skill or dismount? DD is doing a bwo bt dismount but is having trouble connecting them. Wondering if it's necessary and if so what the deduction will be
During the summer DD had a heel that bothered her when she tumbled. Recently she had been complaining the bottoms of her feet hurt when she tumbles on the floor, not her heel, her feet. She is relatively new at this gym and says the floor is new and hard, but she's been here for a year and...
So we are relatively new at competitions and our gym has never run a meet so please excuse this question if it's out of line. Why are session times released so late? We have a meet in less that 2 weeks and I have no idea what date/time DD will compete. The scratch/changes deadline was weeks...
Do you think the optional levels generally have higher scoring? A few of our 5's just moved up to 6 and their 6 scores are already higher than they were getting in 5.
Which part of the body is measured? DD is having a tough time with her shaping on casts and I wondered if being archy in her casts would hurt the angle calculation.
DD has been working on her full turn at home and I was wondering where her "bent " leg is supposed to be? And is it supposed to rest against the other leg throughout? She would ask at the gym normally, but she is currently on break!
We are still a level 4, so I am kind of looking ahead, but I see a lot of posts that talk about girls being better at optional levels than they were at compulsories. Is that because they optional routine is tailored to show off their strengths? Or are optional levels less picky?
I've noticed a lot of threads about gyms that score out of level 5 or 6. Why do some gyms
Skip 5 and some skip 6? Is there am advantage to one over the other?
DD had the kip that came and went most of the summer but has had it consistently since late Sept. but her arms are always bent. What causes this? Is it too little power in her kip or is this something that will come with time and experience since she is still a relatively new at this skill.
My daughter is going to have a private lesson tomorrow evening and I was told to pay the gym secretary for the lesson. Should I also tip the coach that is doing the private?
I was wondering how the put the sessions together at a meet. Is it done strictly by numbers of gymnasts or do they try to group the top scoring gyms with each other (I am referring when there are more than 1 session for level).
Is there a basic rule for common deductions? Like how much for not pointing toes? Or not holding handstand long enough on beam? Or a step on the dismount? I've always wondered how those little things score because I know they add up at the end.
My daughter will be a level 4 this year and I was thinking about a few private lessons before her competition season starts. She is in the gym 13 hours a week but I thought maybe an hour or two of some one on one attention may help her fine tune a few things.
What do you think about private...
DD finally got her kips! She has been doing them pretty consistently the last 2 weeks, just in time for competition later this month!
My question is about her arms. They are bent, she doesn't shimmy on her belly to get up like I've seen some girls do, but there is a bend in her arms. Is this...
It seems our booster club is having some growing pain. As a new team mom I would love to have some ideas from all of you on what your booster club does, What responsibilities is has, what it pays for, and what fun things it does for the girls or fundraising.
