Wonder if it is the gym that I heard abouts head coach leaving. The gym my daughter is at has had an influx of boys if it is. Good luck deciding. There are a few other gyms if it is the one I'm thinking that are also awesome if they don't find someone to replace the coach, but knowing the...
I also will admit to doing cartwheels at night in the hall at work :) Shhhh
My daughter hangs on everything her favorite is bars so anytime we are at a grocery store she is practicing her moves. She likes to watch TV and strange positions and is typically upside down while on a swing.
Cringe! We have a small bar but its only for pullovers, pull-ups, and what I call playground swinging. Things they were trying to do on furniture and banisters in our house. So the mat they use is only in inch thick. :)
So my 4 year old was bumped into the next class, the one I'd heard such bad things about, but it's going amazing. First day in class she got her pullover for the second time (the first time was 6 months ago) she did it several times. Fourth time in class they did beam on the high beam only and...
We have one for our daughter because I found it safer than her hanging on the stair banister  she and her brothers hang on it all the time. Oldest brother is 7 and isn't a gymnast. The younger is two and a monkey so maybe. I will say all that hanging has made her strong.
I moved into contacts around the age of 8 when I was a gymnast. It was easier than squinting all the time with my glasses off. I'd recommend trying to find some that are more like the goggles others have suggested. I love glasses but if they aren't very durable the could definitely break or hurt...
Thanks all! You're making me feel better about my decision to stay put. My thoughts were that I don't want her to get burned out. I'm not planning on her being an elite/college gymnast unless that becomes one of her goals as she gets older which means we'd need to reevaluate in two to three...
On a side note two of the girls around her age just switched to this gym so I am wondering if it is really better or does the grass look greener on the other side?
So, this is my first question on chalk bucket. I am wondering what gym you would recommend for a 4.5 year old given this information (we are currently at gym A)
Gym A: Five minutes from home, currently on pre team which is twice a week, coach seems to repeat the same skills for same day of...
I don't feel artistry needs to be graceful I just like them to own it and do the moves 100% just like the girl in this video. I feel a lot of the half hearted poses are a bore to watch. That's just my opinion though. :)
I sometimes wish they got rid of the music in women's gymnastics just like in men's floor. Then there wouldn't be a need for the "random arm movement" type dance and instead they could solely focus on tricks, jumps, and a few flexibility type moves. I know the music can make it more fun but...
My husbands biggest pet peave is the lack of actual dance in the floor routines now a days. He says it looks like they are just trying to catch their breath as they make some random movements that may or may not go along with the music.
Could she be doing 42 hours there total like 20 hours of school and then 22 hours of gym time? That might make more sense to me. I've never heard of a kid practicing a sport that many hours a day at that age.
I second the mats idea that's one of the things I did way back in the day. I also agree that doing those drills going into the one legged backbends. Backwalkovers on beam became one if my favorites once I got them. Good luck you can do it!!
That's what our pre team feels like from watching. Still fun, but definitely shows you which kids have the focus to head towards the competitive route.
