My daughter will be level 4 next season doing 16hours. 4 of those hours will be daytime. I don't feel great about her missing school, but it seems to be the norm around here.
In some areas, Xcel doesn't seem to get the respect it deserves. There are some great gymnasts in Xcel who have a balanced life while still being able to compete. If your primary coach is good, I would try focusing on all the benefits of being in Xcel and not worry too much what others think...
We've had gymnasts compete but scratch certain events. It's left to the coach's discretion.
If you are otherwise happy with the gym then I would stay put.
I've had some we luck with sushi. I try getting salmon and tuna ones that she can eat on her way to the gym.
I've also given her chicken fried rice in a thermos and she liked that for a while but wants more variety.
The lower floor scores impacted the AA scores for the athletes. The AA score is one of the variables that impacts whether they can move up. Is this different from other gyms?
Yes, our girls did a section of the compulsory routine differently than all other gyms, resulting in additional deductions.
Thanks. I'm trying to take the approach that since all the girls scored 1-1.5points lower on floor than other apparatuses that our gym won't hold them back so no real impact on long term (just lower results at this meet).
Our compulsory girls recently competed. They all received low scores on floor. When we compared against other gyms, we realized that our coach taught some of the routine incorrectly.
As a parent, it has caused me to lose confidence in our coach. We can't change what happened at the meet, but...
We did bronze for 4hrs/week last year. Our new gym does 9hrs/week for bronze which seems much more reasonable given there are 4 apparatus to train/compete. We found 4 hours was insufficient to feel properly trained.
I wouldn't give up hope if she loves it. I would try to increase the frequency of her rec classes but then also seek other ways to help her improve. Perhaps there are Acro/tumbling classes she could take at. Dance or cheer studio? Could you buy a beam and bar to use at home? If she loves...
Does your gym allow gymnasts to skip levels? For example, if they are competing in level 2, would your gym move them to level 4 the following season if they have all the skills or would they make them do level 3?
After a competition, what does your gym do? We've seen scores for all apparatus but curious if other gyms do some type of debrief or modified training to address shortfalls? Or is it practice as usual?
My daughter spent a good portion of her practice teaching this girl the compulsory routine. She was really happy to help and I do love that about her... But she only has 7 practices left before her comp. I was a bit surprised to see them add a new gymnast from the rec program at this time...
Our season goes from July-June with the competitions running from January-April. At our practice today, a new gymnast was added to our group. She is quite a bit younger/less mature than the other girls. I'm trying not to be annoyed about how her integration may take away from key training that...
