We hired a college kid to transport my girls on the days i worked as we were 2 hours each way … then they would go to the beach a lot of the days after their 5 hour practice and come home.
You could probably compete on a club team at a college …. Or, I don’t know where you are located, Rhode Island College has competed with gymnasts who were levels 6-7 and Xcel, so you might look at that school.
And sad and disgusting that it took Farden saying he will "be suing Kara Eaker and Kim Tessen for their false statements of facts" to get him canned and not the actual abuse! and then he doubled down in the WaPo article saying he wasn't going to change his "highly successful tactics" ...Yikes.
And I would highly recommend avoiding any team/school/program that Tom Farden is even remotely associated with...his abusive behavior is nothing new and been mumbled about for years ..as far back as 2010 when he was an assistant at Arkansas , part of his recruiting shtick was to "track your...
My biggest caveat in recruiting is to take whatever a college coach says with a hefty grain of salt ...trust your gut and make NO apologies for protecting your kid. And be thankful for the transfer portal that's more accessible than before so if you do walk into an unbeknownst to you and her...
This happened to my daughter as a level 4 at her first gym....but it wasn't a gym defining moment. We switched to a better gym and she was a multi year Level 10 who competed D1 on a full ride . We often chuckle about her 32.2 at Level 4 States seemed like the cat's meow back in the day....
I'm surprised there'd be practices on Sundays...we were at a few different gyms, one with Olympians, and we never had Sunday practices. Occasionally a meet on Sunday and you could plan on that by opting out. Is it every Sunday? and could your daughter maybe go on a different day to do the hours...
I think you need to back off and let your parents recover from the hundreds of dollars they won't recoup from your gymnastics expenses for meet fees, leos etc. Trying to "get them " to fork over 770 bucks for a puppy and skates right after leaving gymnastics (and I'm not saying you should have...
Well I'd say Baylor, Duquesne, Iona , Quinnipiac, Univ of Oregon to start are "good" ...we've known some kids who have gone to some of the smaller schools on the list such as East Stroudsburg and Gannon and done well. There's also tons of club teams at colleges that you can participate on.
Yes you can....you can leave that gym immediately if that's what you see him doing to your kid. You might not be able to stop him in that particular gym ( which is revolting to even have to write) but you can stop his access to your child by getting out of there.
We always had at least an hour commute each way for the first several years and then a 2 hour commute each way for the last 6 six years so yes, it's doable. My girls were level 10s by the time we were doing the 4 hour round trip...as far as logistics, I had a really flexible part time job so I...
One gym we were at with an Olympic coach had about 25 level 4s that trained 24 hours a week AND most of those kids did at least one weekly private lesson and you can see where this is going....multiple stress fractures of the back, OCD of elbows; injuries galore...exactly ONE of those 25 stayed...
So I did ask my former gymnast daughter (multi year L10) and her response was for certain skills like shootovers as you're flying through the air, you might get touched on the chest or in the crotch but she also said "if this is happening all the time with every spot, you're being molested"
When we changed gyms, we remained friends with those we had been friends with ...and 15 years post our move, several of them and their parents were at my daughter's wedding this summer.
Those we were just teammates/cordial acquaintances would say hi at meets but really the only animosity we...
So in rereading this thread , a few things… OP is 13 and wants to “qualify to elite by 16 “ and says “college gymnastics is a realistic goal” …. While being at a gym doing a rec /Xcel combo.
I don’t even know if it’s worth it for you to move gyms with what is already going on … OP says she is...
I was perusing the results and i guess I’m out of the loop …. What are the regions listed as A4 versus a R4 ? They’re still only the 8 regions, correct ?
I do notice more 38s and some 39s that we really didn’t see back in the day …. Usually a few 38s maybe but never a 39. And one of the...
Yes it was 2 hours to the gym… practice was 4.5 hours … then back in the car for a 2 hour drive home . They ate dinner in the car and did their homework during the drive.
