So I've just started working straddle backs, and they're going pretty well (my coach says he isn't really spotting and I've progressed from having the bars in to having them at my usual setting)... except I don't straddle, I just pike over the bar and then try to open my hips once my feet clear...
I have to write a 1 page paper for a biology class on how science (not necessarily biology) relates to something. Of course, I picked gymnastics. :D If you have time, please read and comment with any suggestions, especially if you're a knowledgeable coach (i.e., dunno :)). Thanks! Oh, the event...
My second advanced prep op meet was this weekend and I did really well. My two goals were to make my tsuk and get a 36 AA, and I did both. :)
Scores:
Started on bars: 9.425. I was really surprised! I have good form and usually score around a 9.2 but this routine was off - the bars felt close...
I have my second meet Sunday night and I'll be competing my tsuk for the first time. General good luck and some special vault fairies would be appreciated! I'm getting really excited. :D
Our home meet was last Sunday and it went pretty well. My goals were a 35AA, make my beam routine, and hit the other events like I know I can. Event breakdown:
Vault: fhs, 8.6 sv. Score: 8.125! My second vault felt really good in the air and then I stuck it cold. My coach said it was...
Well my gym had our intrasquad yesterday and it went pretty well. I competed advanced prep optional, which is kinda in between 7 and 8 except with level 9 vault values for some unknown reason.
Vault: 7.85. I warmed up a few tsuks but after faceplanting my last warmup turn I competed a...
I hope this is the right forum for this. Anyway, I'm a junior and starting to look at colleges. A couple of the ones I'm looking at don't having any gymnastics (div i, ii, iii, or club), and I'm trying to decide how big of a factor that should be - I really can't see myself without some kind of...
I've seen a couple threads lately about struggling with skills and it was interesting to see how some skills were easy for some to pick up and harder for others... so I thought I'd start a thread about it. I struggled with:
Level 4 - single leg shoot-through (I always fell forward) and ro bhs...
I dislocated my knee at a meet on Friday warming up on my first event, beam. :( The meet was 5 hours away, and we had driven with 2 of my teammates, so we had to wait til the meet was over to leave. The trainers looked at it and then I got x-rays on Saturday. I might have a bone chip in my...
I've competed a bhs on beam for a season and a half, and I'm still not confident in it. I don't think it's really a fear; I just really don't like doing them on the high beam. I have hurt myself pretty badly doing them twice (torn ligament in ankle and twisted knee), and it's always the last...
I have my 3rd level 8 meet Sunday. It's 5 hours away so we're leaving tomorrow. My goals are to stay on beam and do everything else just like last week, but with higher casts on bars. Aiming for a 34 AA :).
I had my 2nd level 8 meet earlier today and I'm really happy with how I did!
Scores:
Vt: 8.45 (3rd)
Ub: 8.55 (1st!)
Bb: 8.05 (4th)
Fx: 9.2! (1st)
AA: 34.25 (1st!)
2 points higher than last time! I only competed a fronthandspring vault (I've been jamming into the table on my tsuks...
Well the meet went pretty well. Here are my scores:
Vt: 8.6 - Competed tsuks! Made the 1st one with 3 steps to the side and fell on the 2nd
Ub: 8.35 - basically a hit routine, my casts could have been higher and I only started out of a 9.5 without a pirouette
Bb: 7.85 - My coach just stood...
We have our intersquad tomorrow night. I was really nervous last week because I twisted my knee 3 weeks ago and couldn't practice for a while and then I had the flu for almost a week, but my last 2 practices have been really good so I'm a lot more confident! I've been injured off and on since...
I'm going into level 8 this year and I'm struggling with bars a little. I was wondering if I don't get my pirouette by the beginning of the season and compete a level 7 bar routine with a clear hip a little above horizontal, a cast almost to vertical on the high bar and 2 giants what my start...
I have a lot of trouble with clear hips. I can make it to just above horizontal by myself and can struggle up to handstand with a heavy spot. I know my problem is that I pull into the bar too much and don't lean back enough but I'm having trouble fixing it. My coach is pretty helpful but I just...
What skills were the hardest for you to learn? My giant took me 8 months to learn and I still don't always make it between the bars after a year. I got my backhandspring on beam in only 2 months but even though I almost never fall on it I'm scared of it on high for some reason. (I'll go for it...
I'm working level 8. I'm not sure what I should work for a series on beam; I'd like to do bhs bhs but my bhs are a little heavy so my coach isn't sure if that would work, I can't do bwos (they mess up my back) and I'm scared of roundoffs (after twisting my knee and almost breaking my foot...
Well, I had my state meet this weekend and there were definately some ups and downs. :) I started on floor and got a 9.45, my second highest all season, and I ended up winning floor! Vault was ok - they were judging really hard and I got a 9.25, the highest on my team and 3rd place. Then on bars...
