OK...2 unrelated things in the same thread :)

1. Ds upper arms are getting beat up on pbars. What is it that the boys wear up there? Right now he is using wrist bands. Is that a good idea?

2. ahh..jam time. He is looking for tips for someone whose arms are short compared to his legs. So, when he pikes flat on the floor, his finger tips are barely past his feet, and his chest is on his knees. Is this a skill he should just skip or is there a technique that might help him?

TIA

Wrist Bands are fine on the arms. We keep a few pairs of Nike Contour Neo sleeves for use in the gym. They are a little hard to find in stores, but can be ordered online. Recommend them highly.

Concerning the jam. If your DS is truly at the limit of his pike flex then really nothing can be done (and start working Higgins rolls.) However, that probably isn't the case. Work shoulder extension (push away) with arms in line with ears and head up. Also work the pike position stretch with a flat back - no rounding. This will push the hip backwards and should give him a bit more extension.

Good luck!

Most of those arm bands are made of some neoprene material, aren't they? Which usually has latex in it.

Neoprene is synthetic rubber- not latex. Some things are a mix of latex and neoprene but neoprene itself is latex free. Still contains a bunch of chemicals - so you could be latex allergic and allergic to neoprene as well. Lucky for us with my DS habit of injuring himself (and his latex allergy) that most braces are made from neoprene and he doesn't react to it.
